I will try to do some posts. I have been looking forward to T!

I have a very small Tokudama Aureonebulosa but thanks to this blog I've ordered another for 2021. In addition, I also have Twilight, Taurus and Tangerine Tango. Thanks to everyone's great photos I've been spending lots of time considering what else to order this year. Unfortunately, space is getting limited so I have to either consider enlarging a bed or else i have to rearrange some plants. Oh to have more space!.

Just to let you know it was 37 degrees this morning. It is now 74 degrees. Florida.

beth, my Thunderbolt was a foot tall, with 3 leaves when planted. This summer it had dwindled to nothing, so I hope your experience is better.

peren, I love your Teaspoon in bloom! I am keeping my eyes open for small to medium hostas because I am running out of space and this is one I’m putting on the list

hosta_maker, you always have such unusual hostas—- the subtle colors in Thanksgiving are lovely.....does it take sun well?

shadow, I am so fond of yellow/chartreuse hostas and Tortilla Chip looks like a good one to have

i'm really hoping this piece of thanksgiving continues to sport a wide butterscotch margin and blue green center. with full sun the blue shifts to green and butterscotch turns gold. the colors improve in full sun

That Smudge is a deep thinker. Also, must be nice not to need salt on your roads, or sidewalks, or driveways, or walkways.

Tea Time for first 3 pictures. I love the cool, subtle coloration. I find this plant's coloration very calming.

This one is new and I hope in a location that isn’t too bad. It is near one Japanese maple but in my yard that’s considered a cushy spot!

I have three Touch of Class. I think they are so pretty. Love everyone else's too!

Twilight. Even though it looks pretty good here in June, I have found that the edges seem to get shredded as the season goes along. I have had it in a pot and then I put it in a spin out bag. Maybe it just needs to be in ground. But with limited space, I decided to divide it late last summer. I'll keep one part of it and find new homes for the others. Too many other hostas out there that can provide long seasonal beauty. (I'm getting tougher in my old age!) LOL!

I have several T’s that I didn’t photograph, and several that aren’t worthy of sharing after seeing all of yours- all I can say is WOW to those Teaspoons and TOCs! But here’s the one I just couldn’t stop staring at last summer- Tickle Me Pink. It was still in a pot until late season, and then I actually lifted Fire Island and gave it away in order to give TMP a place of honor. Hope it thrives in its location and continues to look this beautiful (forgive the few schmutzy leaves please).

my hosta tags are here somewhere but where?..I can't check my Tokudama tag..the hosta library shows 5 Tokudama varieties..3 don't look familiar..2 seem like possibilities..to locate mine will require walking my landscape this summer..with my tag name and a hosta library picture..

Thanks, NW! I was not going to buy Tattoo, either. Then, I was at Plant Delights Nursery, and it was there. I almost killed it the first year. It resented being purchased and transplanted. It has such a bad reputation, failing the best gardening efforts. So, I filled a frost-free pot with red clay from my yard, mixed with dry oak leaves. I figured that would be the most different soil from what the experienced, dedicated gardeners would use.

That H. Tattoo is very cool. Not sure I've seen that one before. I've also not considered The King before today. Thanks.

Tony Avent recommmends growing it in a pot for the first few years so the plant can focus on root growth. Be generous with antifungals. I think the planted originated in my county! I planted it in slow draining soil (clay) with dried intact oak leaves mixed in to allow some drainage. I can leave pots above ground all year. For year, I would put the pot in another pot in the ground and rotate it quarterly. It seems to be a bourgeois plant that does not want to be treated to a bourgeois lifestyle. I hope others weigh in and offer you advice.

Debra, I only needed antifungals in the first month. I figured the plant had declared that it would rather die than to leave Tony Avent’s nursery. I picked a slow draining natural soil because I noticed that this plant seemed to grow well for amateur gardeners, but died for dedicated gardeners. That made me think that it liked some neglect, and non-fancy soil. For me, plants in pots above ground which are growing in nice potting mix can dry out quickly.

I had some very good organic soil brought in for my sun bed. I wonder if that would work. I am not a pot user, only because there is no way I can carry them around and over winter them. I could start it in a pot and then put in ground end of August if anyone thinks that would help. Also utog, did you grow yours in all shade, light shade to some sun or did you move it around until you found the right spot? I am in zone 5b SE WI.

Tattoo is a sport of Little Aurora, so it can handle a lot of sun. I grow mine in part sun, which seems to allow good coloration. I think it resents transplantation, so I recommend planting it where you intend to grow it long-term. Avoid the urge to fertilize it. Be generous with antifungals for first month or so. Admire it with the camera, but keep hands off.

I've admired Tattoo also, but heard it has a tendency to sport into Tomahawk which is a plant I've been looking for. I bought it a couple times, but never delivered. I wonder if it is tough to grow also. I think Little Aurora is a decent grower (I hope) as I'm thinking about ordering that one. Maybe I should just get Tattoo and hope for sports/reversions, lol.

The first time I saw Tattoo was in the garden of Michael and Kathy Shadrack. It stood out. The design of the leaf impressive. I did also notice that the size of the plant was small and was in a pot. Amidst their beautiful garden of hosta and the sea of pots, it made me wonder whether it was a new plant or a difficult one to grow. I do hope it grows well for you debra and continues to grow for you utog!

In regards to my Twilight and the edges fraying, it just might be my Twilight and not anybody elses. But I've had it for years, and it just does it every year. I forgot to post a leaf picture that I have of it.

This picture was taken in June and you can see the leaf on the top left is tearing on the edges.

newhostalady my Twilight also gets ratty each year. I have tried moving it to different places but I also would not recommend the hosta. There are so many others which look good all season.

Beth, thank you for letting me know I am not the only one challenged with Twilight. You might find my old post interesting. Bruce had a good suggestion as to why the edges were getting ratty. Unfortunately, I never actually did it. Maybe you want to try?

newhostalady, interesting article. Sounds like many people have issues with Twilight getting ratty late in the season. Mine is in the ground, maybe I should dig it up and check the root ball, I guess it is worth a try.

newhostalady..I read your link too..I had no idea about this situation..I'm anxious to see how pretty (or ugly) my Twilight is in 2021..I paid no attention to it in 2020..😂
