I prefer the blue with your flooring, but not the wood grain coming through. Is it possible to see the rest of your space? I have no idea how the blue relates to anything else in your house.

I like the grey as it ties better with the adjacent rooms. You can add lots of blue accents if you have your heart set on blue. I also think that the grey won’t go out of style and will be more attractive to a future buyer.

Thanks, I have been looking at all sorts of pictures. I am leaning towards the grey, but the floor is a warm color, was not sure it would go with the grey. Of course I could always re- stain the floor of the whole house 🙃

Why are you limited to those 2 colors for cabinets? Why not select something that works with your flooring? Although, I’m now seeing that your kitchen flooring is tile..?

In my unprofessional opinion, I feel like even though you have one large window, it’s still a more closed off space, so I’d go with the light gray.

I would not do the gray. I like the blue, but perhaps a little sharper and brighter. Here are pics of a high-end very expensive Christopher Peacock kitchen for inspiration. Of course, the ceilings are very high, and with tall windows, so it can carry off so much color. But I think somewhere in the middle of the more dull blue in your OP, and the sharper blue in these pics would look nice.

Setting aside the color, I am a little concerned with your cabinets layout - it's hard to see, but it looks like a lot of narrow cabinets, and no base drawers. Can you post more of it? Before you plunk down so many dollars for cabinetry, make sure you are ordering the right combination of sizes in the right spots.

We are taking up the tile (it is awful) and bringing the wood floor into the kitchen. There were no other colors that I was really drawn to, but I am taking another look.

I like the wood colour! And it is a great idea to bring it into the kitchen- I have done that in every place I have owned and not regretted it. I also agree with the post about looking twice at your cabinets- it seems like alot of small cabinets. I would remove the cabinets by the windows for example to lighten up the space.

I vote for blue, or even two tone with blue on the bottom. I have seen so many beautiful blue kitchens lately!

Gray is safe but rather dull IMO, unless you will bring a lot of color in accessories, window treatments, and so forth. Or consider putting a harmonizing light blue on the walls or even the ceiling (I have seen this a lot in BH&G and MS Living, and did it myself)

I do agree that the blue with grain showing is a more casual look, although not necessarily rustic.

You do need to make sure that the gray (in particular) harmonizes with the floor in terms of color temperature.

My opinion - strong deep blue base cabinets with warm grey uppers. Go with solid blue paint rather than the stain as that weathered shabby chic look is dated. Use a lighter, warmer grey that feels cozy rather than dreary. Add a nice warm wood somewhere to balance the room; island, range hood, floor? Enjoy! And remember that the only opinion that matters is yours.

I know you didn't ask for a layout critique, but I will throw this out there just for consideration:

I agree with too many small cabinets and not enough drawers. Multiple small cabs waste storage space and are awkward, as are lower cabinets (even if they have pull out shelves). Do you have some particular reason for all the smaller sizes, other than trying for symmetry and working around the corner cabinets? Limited options in the cabinets you chose?

Remember that you really don't need symmetry in your layout, since you really never look at cabinets straight on once they are in. See if you can combine some of the cabinets into larger ones. For example, you should be able to have one glass door and one solid on the same upper. I hope also that your corner uppers are the easy-reach style.

There are all kinds of combinations to work with your wood floor. Don’t discount a color; consider the undertone.

We did update the layout a bit from the one I sent. The corners open all the way for easy access. We were trying for symmetry and are working with a small space.

Thank you for all your comments, we are putting aside the color concerns right now and reworking the design. getting rid some of the smaller cabinets, adding a set of longer pot drawers next to the stove, generally making it more functional. Your comments helped us take a step back and make sure this is as functional as it can be.

I love that shade of blue! In Maureen's example, the rustic feel comes from the glaze and the cabinet shape, as well as the yellower shade of blue. I think yours could be fresh feeling.

I'm not a pro but I assure you that getting drawers on the bottom instead of doors will change your life (for the better)! It's amazing no designers thought to do lower drawers all this time and only recently started designing that way. That's my first STRONG suggestion.

I am a big fan of a colorful kitchen, especially if it is the right color. If you love blue, there are a lot of them that will work in a small kitchen. The one you chose, with a grain showing through, definitely gives a rustic feel. I also think it's a bit dark for your space. There are SO many beautiful blue kitchens on Houzz and Pinterst, you will go nuts looking at them.

I think grey is dull and not as inspired as blue. Yes, it's more "neutral" but that's why I like the idea of a unique blue for your home.

I vote for gray. Yes, it’s neutral and and you can add blue or any other pop of color in the future when your taste or decor changes. Although I like blue, you’d be stuck having blue even when you’re over it.

I have a blue island in my kitchen. It was a hard choice because I love gray but I have no regrets love love love blue. However looking at your blue with the grain showing through... Ohhhh La La love it.

Either color will work, but I don't like the blue that has the grain showing through. You never see blue wood, so I think it looks odd. I'd use a solid paint to you don't see the grain in either choice.

@murph503, warm toned wood floors that are stained with shades of yellow, orange, or brown are neutral and versatile, and look fine with gray or blue cabinetry, as shown in the many photos already posted. Your floor color does not limit your choices of paint color for your cabinets.

I agree with Design Girl. Do painted wood cabinets if you want blue (or gray), not stained.

Grey will always be in style. Most people like grey; blue is just too much. Unless you choose just the island to be blue and the rest of cabinets white

I love your blue stained wood. Consider how it would hold up long term, compared to a blue painted surface. Also consider if one or the other surface is easier to keep clean, fingerprints, food splashes, etc.

That is good! I also had to work with a small (I think not quite as small as yours) and awkward footprint in my kitchen. I didn't want to waste any space with fillers, so unless I found an installer who could hack some of their cabinets to fit (I did consider attempting it myself!) Ikea was out. I strongly wanted frameless cabinets like Ikea, though! I found a local cabinet maker who could build and fit the cabinets to my kitchen. Even the corner base is non-standard - shorter on one leg to fit the stove wall, and smaller than any typical one (which did eliminate the use of any lazy susan type accessory inside, though - it was worth it to get the larger drawers.) He was less expensive than buying a similar layout & quality at Lowe's would have been. Only buying the off-the-shelf, builder's grade cabinets would have made Lowe's less expensive.

All that to encourage you to look around a bit more for cabinet options, if available in your area.
