Good start with the placement. Try printing out the Etsy artwork and taping it up to see how you like it. Etsy has a lot of attractive art. If the things you like are available in different sizes, using a much larger (poster size) print would have a lot more impact.

Those outlines look a bit small, busy, and high to me. I would choose two larger prints and hang them one above the other horizontally like so:

What would make you smile when you're looking up from your island prepping? Do you like watercolours, drawings, paintings, etc.? Subject matter can be whatever tickles your fancy. Doesn't have to be fruits and vegies. Could be landscapes, buildings, favourite vacation views, abstract art, etc. I mean, this is your house. YOU get to decide what goes on the walls. :) Forget any notion of not being "good with decor". Decor is personal. It shouldn't be there to impress the neighbours or strangers on the Internet. Don't forget you're allowed to change your mind after putting up something on the wall and living with it for a while. Frames aren't permanent fixtures. :)

I would do large painting. Here are a couple ideas. A larger picture will work better in the space. Generally prefer personal pictures in bedrooms or hallways.
