what wood used for the steps?

IN my father's day, it would have been railroad ties. It also looks as if you laced stones around the edges?

Hi. Those treads are actually Tennessee stone, a byproduct of larger pieces that are used for other purposes. I prefer them to railroad ties for several reasons: they don't rot, they aren't soaked with who-knows-what, and I love the authenticity and history of real stone. Thanks for the question.
