Funny, I see the original pic. Houzz has been crazy lately. Anyways I say whitewash it and if you don’t like it you’ll paint it black. Because the opposite way isn’t an option lol.

I would go rather with white than black.

A little too white I think, I want a little color to come through, I’d prolly do like a 1/4 water/paint mixture. Black looks neat too, but I’m just nervous because once it’s done I can’t EVER go back. Ugh. Decisions.

I think it’s just a lot of wall!! It’s very monotonous and repetitive. Would you consider covering up some of the stone? I know you said not. So , sorry if this is a harsh question....

White or black are too harsh with the warm wood tones. A whitewash letting some original brick color come through would be my choice.

There is a technique called German smear. It is essentially a technique of applying grout to the surface of stone or brick in a smearing application. Here is an example.

There are slight variations with some people preferring to apply a little more grout and some a little less. You can sort of tailor to your taste. Good luck!

I really don’t like this trend of covering up with paint everything. I would drop the decor around. What architectural style is your home?

It looked mid century when we moved in, but I like more modern farmhouse. I’m getting rid of dark furniture in my room and painting room bright white, I think, to brighten up. I just need help because I I don’t like the orangey tones. I’d like lighter wood.

Than change tones, the technique suggested above will work. But changing the style to something that the base elements are not will just not look right.
When you change the rest of the room, you may find that the tones will change too - you might even need orange tones to prevent the room from looking and feeling cold.
What I am trying to say is that you can incorporate the original elements. I would say the the decorative elements around it make this wall feel dated, not the wall itself.
