Ikea island help

last modified: 5 years ago

Long story short this 1901 house was just going to get new floors which turned into a kitchen reno. We did alot ourselves, had a professional do the bigger stuff. We went with ikea kitchen cabinets and quartz countertops.

wondering how to add support to our island?! Fabricator said 12” overhang needs support (ikea said we didnt) cabinets are 24” deep. We found wood legs we wanted to add for support but dont know how to securely attach them to the concrete floor and connect them to the cabinets without an awkward apron. We framed out a 2x4 base to the subfloor. The cabinets are connected to that and have an area for the wiring hidden by a 1/2“ thick MDF panel.

all i can find online is hidden support brackets, but since these are ikea theres nowhere to structurally attach that to. Also cant frame sides of the cabinet without compromising the walkway between the kitchen counter & appliances.

any suggestions would be appreciated, i would hate to have to find someone to do this when this is really all we have left in the kitchen!

thank you in advance
