Why did you do the balance of the home first? Now to properly replace casement windows they will need to remove the siding. No muntins (not mullions) at all in my opinion.

I never like grids in windows and I also do not like the blue with the stone and I agree why did you not do the windows at the same time as all the rest

I love the blue and stone l, and I think definitely no grids. They interrupt the view - who wants to look at a tree with a big grid line going through it?

We bought the house 4 years ago and re-did the exterior for esthetics. We’ve now run into an issue with multiple leaky windows so we’re just replacing them all. We didn’t realize they would need to be replaced so soon, or we would have done it at the same time

I like the grids - #1 or # 3 - There are grids on the garage door and I think it looks odd if the windows don't have them.

you cant make a blanket statement about grids . Grids are not dated. It depends on the design of your home. A new England colonial looks cheap and weird without grids. They are just another feature. Many people choose not to have them because they add cost to a window And that’s a shame. In many cases they belong in a homes design.

I like #1 with grids on the top. I agree that since the garage door has grids, the window should as well.

If you can remove the grid in the garage windows, you could go with no grids.

I think, I would still go with option one.

Any designer will tell you that window mullions/grills/whatever are not dated. Many new homes are built cheaply and grids cost money. Windows should be designed to be a cohesive part of a home, so many styles are offered. Those awful "modern farmhouses" that all the millennials want often have black windows with no mullions. They're already out in the NYC area. They actually were never in. Different parts of the country and different home styles warrant different windows.

@charusmith, what a dramatic change ypu made on your home. Looks great & somehow more “substantial“. Definitely more inviting or welcoming, I studied the window mockups @User so kindly did for you & while I liked some of them I kept being drawn to the lower right bay window. I don’t care for any of the grids/ grills/ muntins or whatever they are called in that window. Seems too busy. I like the overall clean look without any windows having them but I would leave them in the garage door windows. FWIW, I also agree with @Design Girl position about dated or not!

Yeah grills grids whatever are out of style. When we bought a house in 1998 they were all the rage. Anderson patio doors with grids, not any more

No why you want to spend more money on a thing that is not anymore in. The windows will do just fine without.

If double pane windows with grids between the glass is available, that would be my choice for the house and even for a garage. That double pane w/dead air space in between that you get with the grill makes a noticeable difference in how much cold enters via the windows..

Sorry, @Kathy Furt, but no. You may not prefer the look of grills, grids, or whatever, but that does not make them very, very dated. Sure, there houses that look better without them, or they aren't suited for that style house, but that is house specific, even region specific. There are plenty of timeless details, both exterior and interior that either suit a house or don't, but they don't go out of style. Window grills are one of those items. To say otherwise, is just ridiculous.

I would treat them as an accent and do one statement window and keep the rest without:

True Amy! I’ve been looking through my IG, lots of black with grids but they are thin and not even squares. I would say that the usual vinyl with squares inside are OUT!

I think if you have a great view grids can really ruin it. I have grids in my current home but our last house had this lovely view of a conservation forest and we took the grates out in the back of the house to keep our view beautiful. It felt like the outdoors was part of our family room.

Welcome to a dozen opinions on your question! First, you did an amazing job on your exterior. Second, there are a ton of reasons to go without grids if they are not between double pane windows. The cleaning task alone is a reason to forgo them. That being said, I'll vote for either none or the first mock up that @User. I also liked @User option.

I am only able to tag someone if I'm on my desktop, the Houzz app on my phone won't tag. I think you just tap on their name and it will take you to their profile where you can message them.

@charusmith - to DM a Houzzer poster, touch their circle picture/ icon which takes you to their profile. Many posters & the Pros for sure, have a message link there where you can send an email message to them. I think it might only be included if they’ve set it up in their profile.

@charusmith hmmm I’ll check my profile as thought I’d included email. To tag , key @ symbol & drop down list should pop up. Scroll down to “in this thread” & select name of poster you’re replying to. The @sign & poster name should appear highlighted as a link would in your message box.

When I tag a certain poster I copy their profile name from the thread. When you paste, it will be highlighted and "tag" them. charusmith

@User thanks for tip. I usually have to key in couple letters after the @ sign before all the names pop up.. Do you know about DM? I’m guessing that’s email unless a user has social links they’ve also listed (which I don’t have listed). I do have email in profile but doesn’t list as I see it does with Pros so my guess was if set up as Pro there are other contact options via profile for business use

KW - I'm not sure how it works outside of Pro accounts, but the "send message" for pro sends the message to an email system within Houzz but also sends an email notifying that we've received a message via Houzz (a notification preference we've selected). Not sure if it's the same for other accounts.

@User Thanks for info. As non pro set up, I do receive email notification that I have a comment addressed to me since I have that option checked in profile. The email provides a bit of info but not the entire comment. When go into Houzz, the notification alert flag at top right of page lists all notifications & contains a link to each post. I don’t see an email system within Houzz for me - find no options for that. Thanks for your help! I also don’t see a user help page inside Houzz to help with navigation - seems we‘re on our own for that!😄

Thanks everyone! Thank you Glo! My concern is that on the interior we will be putting white shutters most likely. So when they are closed, can you actually see the grills? Will it look too busy? In particular in the big bay window. That’s my home office and it gets tons of light. I can’t see my computer screen with the shutters open. So they will likely often be closed.
