Flex Room - Foyer Conundrum

We bought a new build townhouse where the foyer leads straight to the flex room. I provided the copy of the floor plan.

During our decor session, we were advised that we can setup a home office in this flex room. We’re really not sure as to what to do with this space. We were debating whether to push through with the home office or a home gym. 😔 Both of which I am not comfortable to do considering that it served as an entryway for visitors. This is the first room guests are going to see upon stepping in the foyer. But at the
same time, we need to utilize the space.

Please help. Any ideas? I am not well versed with interior design. I’ve been researching and trying to come up with ideas.

This? Below? It's a joke.......an OFFICE? You want to sit down there ? If you do, you build in a nice long desk, where I put the closets. You make it no more than 20 inches deep, and tuck a chair beneath. And you put the closets and what may have been potentially great storage, BACK into the Foyer and crummy by pass closet the arch designed. But I wouldn't. I honestly would not.

Why? This is not flex. I have never seen anything as thoughtless. Make yourself an attractive friend entry. Buy a nice bench to suit, it's a great spot in foyer for a guest to remove a wet or muddy shoe. Add a rug you love! Add a lovely console, mirror and lamp. This can be left "on" for a nice evening glow.

You will enter mostly from Garage, Build in a bench seat, add hooks for the handy jacket, tote, package set down. A basket for shoes below. It'll be a mere 36 wide, but it beats nothing.

THE REST? LOL.......You give yourself a ton of closet/storage. You forget "music rooms, sofa's and anything else. Thank me later.

Laziest architect plan I have ever seen. Or stupid labels to the spaces

Could you install sliding or traditional door closets to make a hidden office? Just shut the door when company is over?

Oh dear, the architect made a very long and wide hallway there! Is there another entry located on the second floor? Could guests be easily diverted to it ? By doing that, you would get your flex space back to be used however you would like.

That architect needs to be shot what a goofy way to design any space . I agree with Jan use it for nice needed storage and a really nice entry there is no flex to this space it is a hallway.

too lazy to do their JOB.

In fairness.....you could do as suggested above, but forget the DOORS. An added expense, and I would only do this Office concept if you truly need "office"

For most folks unless seriously working from home ? The office is anywhere your phone is. You can of course take one of the closets I suggested, and build in some file cabinets and a spot for the paper bs of life, that never really disappears. As I said..it depends what you have elsewhere, and how you will use the "elsewhere.".

Most of real life, ends up in your kitchen, or near it. Doing something like this on another floor entirely ........requires discipline to the obvious mail dump it shall become.

What do you need that isn’t upstairs? How many people are in the house?

It’s 6’ wide, and not sure how much light will penetrate the far end, from the front windows or from upstairs.

Do you need storage? For outerwear? Sports gear? Stroller? Other Stuff? Do you need an office? What kind? Does someone work from home, or is it a home office, or for schoolwork?

What kind of music room are you thinking of? Listening? Playing?

Just purely my own opinion, given no other needs, is a curved console table on the stair wall, with a lamp. Drawers for sunglasses, scarves, gloves, etc. Curved, to soften the route from doors to stairs and vice versa, so it is less of a straight tunnel. Large art on the left wall. A few hooks and a key rack where it says “office flex space” (out of sight of the foyer). A small table with a low-watt lamp and a timer for the foyer.
