Office remodel / update

Love my office but would like to update a bit.

What scale of an update are you talking about? Are you thinking a new paint job or more like new decor or a desk? Here are some simple ways to update your space: replace curtains with light ones and add a rug under the desk. If you want to lighten your space, you may want to consider painting your room a lighter color. If you want a pop of color on your walls, you can paint 3 walls neutral or white, and then paint one wall a color you like that will make your space interesting. Right now, everything seems very closed in, if you don’t like your cabinets, you can replace some with open shelving. There are pros and cons to open shelving. Open shelving looks good, but is not always practical, so if you use the cabinets, you may not want to replace them. If you think the cabinets need an update, they would look nice if they were painted white. This would lighten up the room and make it feel more spacious. Good luck!

Agreed that it really depends how much you can/ want to do. I’d say paint and lighting. Are there hardwoods under the carpet?

would also be helpful to know what type of office is this, meaning whats the use. Is it a home office just for yourself or do you meet clients in there? What are the cabinets used for? could it be open shelving as suggested above? or does it need to be closed for privacy reasons (or any other reason, just an example). Also how much cabinetry do you need?

Of course just as important is how much of an update do you want to do? budget?

It’s a home office. The cabinet with books on the open shelving is a Murphy bed. My home office is also used as a second guest room on some occasions. The cabinet with the word, “Read” has storage with shelves for storage. The entire library has rugs which run throughout the the entire floor plan excep kitchen and sunroom. Any suggestions as to lighter curtains? See thru?

Sheer curtains would look nice , but not sure that’d be my first change ... paint and lighting would probably be...

I like this light blue by Benjamin Moore color for the room.

I recently installed this fan with the lighting because here in Florida one needs fans, especially during the summertime.

Love the blue color choice. Would you add more moldings and baseboards? Would also love to see some wallpaper

@HU-187528210 The ceilings are slanted. How would molding look and is there an app in which I could view what it might look like?

There aren't hardwoods under the carpet.

    I like your office too.

Random thoughts: the arched tops on the windows seem to jump out at me. Not sure if that’s a good thing. Even though there are large windows the room seems dark/shadowed. I like light so I’d paint the walls white. The corner with Peace and the painting seems crowded. It’s a small spot which I think I’d leave bare. I understand the function of the chair mat but the plastic seems, well, tacky. No offense intended.

@littlebug zone 5 Missouri The rugs are thick and don’t allow the chair to roll. Any advice on how to solve that problem? I removed the peace sign.

The shades have been removed from the arched windows.

Options for the carpet are number one, install a floor that allows you to roll... or number two, add an office floor mat.
As far as molding I didn’t realize it was sloped. But you can do a wainscoting along the whole wall instead of top / crown molding. I think you need to bring more white into the space.

The Waynes coding would be along the whole wall where are the arched windows are? As the other walls have cabinets and would not be seen. I also thought of purchasing an artificial plant for the corner. Or would that be too much?

Lots of places sell office chair mats which are not clear, shiny plastic.

Wallpaper installed. Photos without sheer curtains and with sheer curtains. Also the mat used under the desk would move and slide on the rug so my husband placed the old mat underneath the new mat because the old mat has grips and also makes the top mat firmer. Shears were installed three days after the wallpaper was installed as we were advised by the installer. I love the wallpaper.

I use this chair and ottoman for reading every morning although sometimes I read in the sunroom. It also serves for chatting with others while I’m at my desk.

Ne xt will be to have the room painted.
