Two versions of Bishop

A while back I posted about getting rid of plants i didn’t love to make room for more varieties. One of those was Bishop. I’d purchased a leaf pot from Moonlight Nurseries and was raising 2 babies. The first to bloom was solid pink and not terribly exciting. I gave her away with no regrets. The 2nd one has pink flowers with a pronounced green ruffled edge. A whole nother ball of wax, as it were. She’s definitely a keeper. I thought you might find the difference interesting.

I like them both, but of course, edging is extra special.

Yup, same leaf. I don’t think it’s so unusual for 2 different plants to grow from one leaf. I had a leaf pot of K’s Favorite Trick and got one true flower and one sport. Here’s the true version. The sport had a solid blue eye.

Over the decades I’ve grown an awful lot of plants from leaves, but never got two different bloomers from one leave — or even multiple leaves — so I’d say it’s unusual! I just had my first-ever sport from a fantasy violet. If it’s not unusual for you, then your hybrids must be very unstable. Probably with a fantasy parent.

That is exactly what it does for me - from boring OK pink to crazy green edges and curly leaves - all from the same leaf pot. Anything by the late MN hybridizer Dolores Harrington is worth collecting. Harder and harder to find.
