How does an entry end up in a protrusion - completely exposed to the elements- as opposed to being recessed in like shown on the drawing?

Agreed to do some sort of roof. There’s a ton of potential here. Beautiful bones!! I’d do some sort of portico maybe extend the porch a little. And an updated walkway. Maybe with some stone or tiles or something.

I agree, you have potential for a much more welcoming entrance. The steps look small and precarious, consider moving them forward to create a much more spacious landing/porch where flowering pots can be placed, maybe some seating. I like the idea of using the entire width of the area and prefer a covered entrance so guests don't have to stand in the rain or sun. There are a number of possibilities for the materials depending on your taste and budget.
