No, it is just the small strip of dirt.

There's not much space there. What if you did some vines? You could just let them grow or do some interesting espaliered plants.

Beware building up a deeper plan ting area without protecting your siding.

You might consider planting a row of Liriope if it will grow well where you live.

Lantana plants would add some color. They come in all colors. Just make sure you get the correct size for the space. I am also in zone 10a and they bloom all year. Some other ideas are Kangaroo Paw, Lavender, India Hawthorn.

If you go to plantsexpress.com and look under southern California area most all of those plants will work in your zone. They do not deliver to your area, but it will give you ideas.

I'd use something like Oyster Plant or Heuchera. Whatever you plant will flop on to the pavement a bit so I wouldn't use anything woody.
