@Ghibie19 Growing Madagascar Jasmine is relatively easy, no particular special care is needed. Mine is in ground. Each blooming flower can last about one week before starting to wither. Mine were all grown from seeds so they took 2-3 years to bloom. Your plant seems to be very young so might take some time to bloom

This is my first experience growing this one. At the time of buying this plant, Sheni had 2 more in larger containers. I decided on this smaller one because I was afraid of losing it. I was not thinking of ground growing. The next time I see her I will ask if it is possible to ground grow here in the hot desert.

What can I expect to see per year as the growing rate in the ground?

@Ghibie19 At least one metre or more per year growth of the heavily green leave decorated vine, the dark green fatty evergreen leaves themselves are a joy to watch, they are immune of insect pests & each leave can stay on the vine for up to two years. In hot weather they still thrive : they can survive our city’s over 40 degrees Celsius summer scorching sun shine without much sun burn

I appear to be experiencing the inconsistent leaf growing pattern. The original leaves at time of purchase were approximately 7-8 centimeters long and 4.5 centimeters at the widest part of the leaf. The 2 pair of leaves that have grown last year after purchase were slightly larger than the original ones, 8-9 centimeters. This year, it has already put on 2 new sets of leaves and they are 12 centimeters long and 5 centimeters at the widest part of the leaf. It has not yet been fertilized, however, I have up potted it from the 10cm wide X 12cm tall pot to 20cm wide X 17cm tall pot a few weeks after purchased from Sheni at the show.

I must admit that I am struggling to understand what went wrong in the process. I would very much appreciate any insight you could provide. Thanks!

@Ghibie19 Feel free to fertilise the plant: to accelerate trunk & leave growth add nitrogen rich fertiliser while to accelerate flowers add potassium rich fertiliser, phosphorus components are needed for root growth. The leave growth with increased size seems to be normal, mine also have slightly enlarging leaves as they grow higher & higher along the vines. Getting more sunshine seems to speed up the flower: my quickest flowering Madagascar jasmine was the one in pot left outside against a north facing wall shed wall: it bloomed in just under three years since being sowed as seed in the soil

Now I want one! I can try in ground in my greenhouse although I live up here in cold New England...I love this plant. I always thought spider mites love this plant? NO?

Do you use an acidic fertilizer? What a great looking plant and wonderful job)

@Meyermike(Zone 6a Ma.) I haven’t seen any insect pests yet on this plant, not even the slugs/snails that could byte its thick leaves. I did use some normal balanced fertilizer although not very often. It grows well in ground & in pot. Our city’s winter has very few sub-zero winter nights so it also fares well in open air during winter.

Spring appears to be the best time to go shopping for fertilizer in my area.

This fertilizer with guaranteed analysis:

2% Ammoniacal nitrogen, .7% Water Soluble nitrogen, 2.1% Water Insoluble nitrogen, 4% Phosphate, 6% Potash, 8% Calcium, 0.9% Magnesium.

I also bought 11-35-15(Nitrogen – Phosphate – Potash).

A little bit of sunshine, water & fertilizer, can you tell this plant is becoming another one of my favorites!

How often should I replace the soil?

@Ghibie19 I only have one Madagascar Jasmine planted in a pot of roughly 80cm tall of a 30CM diameter which I haven’t changed soil at all in the past three & half years except occasionally adding some top soil when the soil in the pot seemed to become less. This potted plant is against a shed wall facing sun most of the day so it bloomed in about 2.5 years after being sown as seed.
