kitchen reno or partial reno

we are considering renovating our kitchen that was last renovated in 2004. we should replace the cabinets but they are in pretty good shape. we've thought about replacing the doors only for a more streamlined door. the cabinets all came from home depot and the cabinets or doors are no longer available. if we kept the cabinets, could we go lighter counter and backsplash. and get a little longevity from them. we may only stay here 6 or so years. is it better to change for resale value, some or all of it.

in 6 yrs the cabinets will be approaching a quarter century old. Cabinets have a lifespan. I'd leave it alone in that sense . Can you think of some smaller details like lighting/hardware/paint/ to refresh things ?

We have finally revisited our kitchen dilemma and think we will replace backsplash and counter to get a few more years from the cabinets. We are unable to replace the cabinets in the same design as we cant find a cabinet manufacturer that has a 9 inch wide cabinet. Our stove area is very tight and in order to have one cabinet on each side..one side has to be 9 inch. Any suggestions on this circumstance would be helpful. There is a window that prevents from altering also. We cant afford custom.

without counting the rangehood the space for cabinets is 21 between both sides of the rangehood. Right now we have a 6 inch and a 15 inch cabinet.

We are considering home depot refacing. Anyone done this. A little cheaper but the cupboard boxes are still in good shape so we'd like to keep them and change up the doors.
