I have heard of people going for an oxalis lawn in texas... even in El Paso. It takes less water.

Um, oxalis takes more water than grass from what I see in my lawn. I have St Augustine creeping across a full yard in front and back. In the spots where there is oxalis, it wilts long before the grass does. Oxalis does not like deep and infrequent watering.

To answer the original question, I believer there is a southern version of Weed-b-Gone for bermuda. That should take care of clover. Since clover reseeds itself quickly, you might need to keep after it every time you see new clover popping up.

If you have active clover right now, you might try the wbg now to get a head start on it. Then give it until mid April to see what's left.

There are different types of oxalis. I think they are talking about that very small leafed weedy oxalis. Not the woodland oxalis.

Clover used to be commonly mixed with grass seed for a hybrid lawn. Only when herbicide manufacturers begin calling it a weed did it become "unacceptable" to home gardeners. (Google the history.)

Clover has much to recommend it, as it makes a very attractive ground cover that is, in many places, much more dependable than grass. It can be grown successfully as a lawn in Texas. The dwarf variety is particularly lovely and is quite hardy, as long as you aren't planning to trample it regularly.

Yes, when I was a kid in the 50s we could buy clover seed separately or as mentioned, mixed in with grass seed. My mom wanted a dichondra lawn in SoCal, so we had a dichondra lawn. Killing clover in dichondra is nearly impossible without killing the dichondra.

We've purposely added it to our lawn, and think it's great. Nice and green when nothing else is.

When the heat rises in Texas, usually that's the end of the clover, as it dies back and the grass fills in.

Yes that is true but unchecked it will continue to reseed and spread. My HOA is a real pain and threatens citations calling it a weed. Very petty but it is what it is.

Updating to ask if it is too late for me to have any success in killing clover, dollar wort and other noxious weeds including crab and Johnson grass by applying a granular weed and feed fertilizer to my bermuda lawn here in Austin, TX?

NOW, mid April, is the perfect time to SPOT SPRAY weeds. It is never a good time to use granular weed n feed products. It's a waste of both fertilizer and herbicide. If you want to fertilize bermuda, you can do that any month, and every month of the growing season, but weed control should be done by spray, once, in April. The reason to wait until April is to ensure the weeds are up, growing, and healthy. It also gives the bermuda the rest of the year to fill in where the weeds used to be.

For St Augustine I use this stuff.

If you read the label it is not recommended for bermuda, so I assumed it would harm the bermuda. It doesn't. I have some bermuda encroachment, and this stuff doesn't touch it. It kills all the broadleaf weeds and most all the grassy weeds. Kills seeds, too, so if you get the same weeds year after year, this seems to stop that.

By the way, if you have seen the Spectracide YouTube video on how to spray their hose end products, I have a comment on that. The video shows the guy spraying the entire lawn with the product. My lawn is fairly weed free, so I just spot spray specific weeds by turning on the spray when it is aimed at the weeds. The first time I used that purple Spectracide, I did have a lawn full of poa annua, so I had to spray the entire lawn. It died in a few weeks, and the next year I had no poa at all. So I was not sold on this product until I saw the results after a full year.

Also this is not a soil drench product. All you have to do is moisten the leaves of the target weeds and move on. Spray with the wind to your back and watch out for overspray. Don't walk through the area until the product dries.
