I would pick the lightest color from the counters that blends with the cabinets. Keep it simple due to the pattern in the counters.

Would you go with a brick style or a stacked style? I'm interested in the stack style (vertical or horizontal) but wondering if its a conflict in style? The rest of my house leans toward rustic.

It looks like your counters are greyish whitish, like a husky dog.

What about your cabinets?

Are they in a cool white color or more in a warm white color?

I would use a traditional layout with your kitchen, and use a grout that blends in with the tiles - your counter has a very dominant pattern, so you don’t want to introduce another pattern by using a contrasting grout. I would definitely not choose a tile that closely matches cabinet and paint color (I assume since you used the word “and” that your paint and cabinets are very similar in color). I agree that I would pick the lightest color from the counter, provided it’s noticeably
lighter than the cabinets. If it’s not it will just be one big bland blah of color because your cabinets, walls, and backsplash will all look the same.
