I need design ideas for asymetrical fireplace!

Ugh!!! This fireplace has driven me bonkers for years. Any ideas how to make this feel more symmetrical? I also really dislike all the molding, but have no idea what to do to make it more my style, which is clean lines and closer to modern farmhouse. Any ideas greatly appreciated!

I would take the top framey thing off. Put a higher table to the right with a large piece of art above it to balance the left side. Maybe just some candle sticks on the mantle. If removing the piece is too much for you paint it the wall color so it disappears

I would have ripped out the top part the minute I got the house :), but seriously remove it, it offers no architectural design and the place will look much better.

I honestly never thought about taking it down, just always wondered how I could make it look better 😂I’m scared it’s going to mess up the wall. Do you have any idea how I should take it down?

Ditto taking the top frame off. It is likely nailed to the wall with finishing nails. Slide a thin prybar under the edges at several locations, tapping it in with a hammer, and slowly work it loose and remove. Yes, you will likely have to touch up the spackling, and repaint the whole wall.

I'm the outlier here. The frame is fabulous, IMO. I would get some amazing wallpaper for it--something that looks like a painting and the same for the back of the bookshelves next to it. Choose a wallpaper in your style. I guarantee people will look at that and say: "That's so cool!"

If you or any friends are artistic, do a mural in that space--like your striped painting for example, and also paint the back of the bookshelves in a complementary color. There's tons you can do with that arch. I'm surprised others are saying to get rid of it!

One last thing. If that's not a gas fireplace, put big birch logs in the firebox to connect it to the top and balance it out.

Oh, for symmetry, a long vertical art work, or a pair of complementary art works hung vertically on the right to the height of the bookcase top would balance out the bookcase.

Or hang several floating ledges in white to display more artwork with top shelf at height of top of bookcase. This fireplace also has a gorgeous frame. (Probably there was a mirror inside that frame at one time. If you had some budget, you could get an antiqued mirror fitted in there. $$$$)

There are a few different possibilities here. You might be able to add a mirror over the fireplace and then get a large piece of artwork to go over the console on the other side of the fireplace. However you could also choose to remove the console and add another bookshelf on that side. Below are more ideas:
