Kordes - South Africa is fantastic.

Tantau - Fragrant Cloud is still a favorite fragrance.

Of my Kordes roses, Caramella Fairy Tale is great here. I prune it, I fertilize it, I forget it. Well, until it blooms, that is, lol. Figi is becoming one of my favorites. It's a 2 year old own-root, so I'm expecting great things this year in summer three. Ascot (Tantau) WAS a star, but I lost it to "that which must not be named"...RRD. I haven't been able to replace it, because Palatine always sells out before I can order.

As an aside, a Kordes that does NOT do well for me is Zaide. I've seen lovely photos of it, but it just *sits* there and glumps. It simply is not a robust rose for me. I may try another one, as this one is own-root. It might do better grafted.

I love my Fiji. It is such a great color.

Most Kordes roses get huge here so I only have Fiji, Bliss and on order is Kosmos Fairytale.

By far my favorite rose of any kind is Augusta Luise. I also like Bernstein-Rose and Ascot. These are Tantau. Kordes and I don't get along very well, but I do like Caramel Antike. Diane

Frühlingsduft is an absolute favourite from Kordes (1949). Another is Alchymist. Both are mostly once flowering, but worth it!

Bliss Parfuma is my favorite Kordes I currently have, it was new last spring and performed well. I’m looking forward to seeing what First Crush, Madame Anisette, and Kiss Me Kate do this year.

I got Gruss an Achen 20 years ago after loving it at Monet's Garden in France. The blooms are gorgeous but the plant is not very attractive. I think I will pamper this one a bit this year and see how it does.

I got Pomponella Fairy Tale and Earth Angel as own roots last spring - not much to show yet, but these photos are gorgeous and I'm getting excited to see what they might do this year.

Ascot has intrigued me when I see the gorgeous photos of it on the forum and now that I know I can grow multiflora root stock here, I think I will get Pompon Veranda from Palatine when next it is offered.

Oh and then I forgot I wanted Augusta Louise...

I'd be very interested in hearing how your Kiss Me Kate does, @Nick 10bSW17, I was waffling on that one for a while this year but ended up not getting it.

@Mischievous Magpie (CO 5b) I only got a flower or two out of it in the first year, so I’m hoping year two is better.

My Kiss Me Kate was slow the first two years. It’s year three now and so help me God she better leap....

I have to confess that the rose on photo is not mine! It belongs to a former neighbor in Copenhagen. Two 25 year old Frühlingsduft in her front yard, 3-4 meters tall. The first year I lived on the street they bloomed a little in July-September (as well as the main flush in early June). Now I have two in my own garden but they are tiny in comparison.

I could never grow it because I only grow roses whose name I can spell , like Bliss. Lol

Florentina has been particularly eye-catching in my mother's garden. She always tells me not to buy her another rose and then is so pleased to show me their blooms. Her garden always far outperforms my own.

I really like Beverly. She is beautiful, has great scent and is disease free -including BS - in my garden. Her only problem is she is a Chili Thrip magnet. They ADORE her.... WHICH ticks me off because I adore her too and I do NOT want to share..... however, on the bright side she is my barometer, when I see CT damage starting on her I know it is time to spray.... that is good. Because I don't have to spray all the time and able to cut back.

I think my favorite bloom is Earth Angle. I just LOVE LOVE LOVE it,,,, so wonderfully scented and ahhhh... the shape makes me want to swoon. However, she is not nearly as healthy in my garden.... After every flush.... which is always a great display, her leaves turn yellowish and she drops many of them.... not sure what is going on.... At first I thought it might be spider mites... but after her third time doing this I do not think that is the problem.... and it isn't from over watering.... I will try and get pics next time .... maybe someone can help me out on what she is doing..... However, her ugly leaf thing does not out weight the beauty and scent.... she still makes my heart go pitter-patter.

I second Caramel Fairy Tale. It's healthy, vigorous, and repeats well but is not fragrant.

Cinderella Fairy Tale...really gets big here. Very healthy.

i ordered Kordes: Wedding Bells, and Bliss. But I could order them all! Kordes have such a strong unique character to each bloom! I also ordered Beverly, Summer Romance, Earth Angel. Kiss Me Kate Climber and Honeymoon Climber are already planted last fall. And I ordered from the Kordes Fairy Tale Collection: Pomponella, Cinderella, Lion’s Fairy, and I’d like to order “Elegant Fairy Tale.”

I don’t think I saw anyone mention Cream Veranda who is a wonderful small rose with a light fragrance. I have her in a pot on the front porch in maybe four hours of sun

Wow Cream Veranda is so pretty! Her colors remind me of Bathsheba in those photos!

Sultry if you don’t have here I think you’d like her. She‘s similar to Bathsheba but different enough that you feel like they are two separate roses.

In my yard at least Bathsheba can sometimes have a golden cast whereas CV is pretty much always more peaches and cream.

Also, Bathsheba has a “shabby chic” look and CV is more uniform

Is your Grande Amore very thorny? Mine has a lot of thorns. I like it’s blooms but plan on giving it away and putting Velvet Fragrance in its place hoping for less thorns. Are you happy with it? How tall and how much does your bloom? What’s your location? Zone?

Erasmus, your Lavender Lassie and Alchymist photo is a very favorite of mine, and I might have attributed it to someone else in another thread. If I can find it, I will change it. That photo is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. Those soft colors are meant for each other.

Ken - your Hannah Gordon has that sophisticated look that really great red roses can accomplish!! :) :) Beautiful!!

Thank you Rosecanadian and Flowers and all. I lost that Alchymist plant to cold! At least I think that's what did it. Maybe it was voles. It's supposed to be very hardy...Botanica's Roses rates it as hardy in zone 3.

Kitty, Alchymist has a lot of different looks to it but often has a lot stronger coloring and can have some orange. Since it's a Kordes rose I'll add a picture or two. It is a very thorny rose with fat , beefy canes that can look ugly on the lower part. It would be good to grow something else to cover that . Blooms are large but have no fragrance.

Pure perfection! Erasmus, I hope you will grow Alchymist again and she will be as beautiful for you the second time around. I grew mostly OGR once bloomers when I lived in SoCal, but Alchymist could get me started again.

Kitty6aNY---I'm in zone 7, N.E. GA. I have 3 bush's of GA. I like it a lot. Strong spring bloom. Scattered blooms all summer. Very good fall blooms. Grows pretty much straight up with long stems. Yes, it is well armed but I grow Rosa Rugosa and Rosa Rugosa Alba, so I'm OK with thorns.

Yeah I kind of feel like I have to have Alchemist now. I wonder where it could fit...
