Large empty dining room/kitchen wall

last modified: 5 years ago

Hi everyone! Looking for your ideas on this large empty wall. (This is a rental and don’t think I can change out light fixture)
Also, was thinking about painting and was going to go off colors in countertop. Again, this is a rental and kind of a mix match kitchen, but love

to add some paint. Thoughts?

Large art, or collage, a console would be nice and turn table. To warm it up a bit more, a rug and a large plant.

Really once you put up decor it will warm up. Large canvas art on wall. Better window treatments than those sheers and a indoor/outdoor rug. I wouldn't bother painting a rental. Look at Art from

    Rugs from ruggables.com ballarddesigns.com

Thank you! Rug for under table do you mean? Solid? There is already so much that doesn’t match in this space! Any advice is appreciated :)

I don't think you need to paint. That color would be a good backdrop for some colorful artwork. I'd take down the sheers and put up bamboo blinds or roman shades - they would coordinate with your cabinets. Add kitchen towels in colors you like.

Don't bother painting, just add art. You can definitely change the light fixture. Just put the original light in storage and put it back when you move.

The wall color is nice and neutral. As mentioned above, accessories make a big difference.

Kitchen could also be bumped up a notch with something on wall and a portable island underneath could be handy, as well as cute.

Not sure what you mean by "already so much that doesn't match"? This is a very common basic kitchen. Everything coordinates, No it's not a high end kitchen but it can made charming. 1st turn the table. Get a rug at least 2 feet wider all around than the table. I have had one of these from ballard designs for a couple of years in my kitchen , in the work area and just vacuum and it looks brand new. Any of the blues, the green or the rust would work in your space. Get a big canvas art for the wall from places I suggested above or Home Goods, TJ Maxx. Put blue painters tape on the wall in a 3x5 rectangle and play around with it (or post it here for us to help) to a good size too look for. Faux Roman Shades on the windows in a fun fabric. Some colorful accessories on the counter top for cooking utensils and you will have a very cute kitchen.

What I meant by nothing matches is that, to me, the floor color, cabinets, countertop and appliances. There are so many colors that don’t seem to go well together. I love the roman shade idea! I love the rug idea too but wouldn’t putting one down clash against the pattern in the floor and countertops? Also thought about the portable island, but again what color would you go with? Match to the cabinets or the table or the appliances..??? Such great ideas so far! Thanks!

Maybe one of these original artworks would add some texture and contrast to your wall. Here are some ideas to ponder. Good luck and enjoy decor !

I plan on being here long term for the time being...I would say at least 3 years.
