It is official...our new home

We closed on our new home in Shepherdstown WV this past week. We still have our household to get moved next week and then we can finally settle in to our new community. Excited and yet exhausted as we still have to pack more "stuff". I moved 5 of the 11 potted plants to my daughter in Maryland this past week till I get the remainder moved down to our new place and figure out how I want to set up my new garden space. But I'm sure the plants will be happy in the pots till I make up my mind LOL. We will be only an hour from our children who live in Maryland and Virginia. Better than driving 5 to 6 hours. I do believe deer may be a nuisance in our new place...sadly.

Back here in NYState, the snow is melting but darn it is cold. Daylight savings time is only a week away and the official first day of spring is the following week. Thank goodness.

Congratulations! Shepherdstown is a beautiful area. When I lived in MD, I fished the Potomac River from Snyder's Landing to Harper's Ferry many times. It is just gorgeous country. The area is rich in Civil War history, if that is of interest. It is certainly easier to travel an hour to see your family in MD and VA. Driving through PA to see family in MD, seems to go on forever.

Congratulations. You never know how a closing will go and it's a big relief when it's all over. I don't envy you the work ahead, but being closer to your children is a nice bonus (especially if they garden too-lol)................Maryl

Congratulations. It sounds as if you will be in a happier situation with regard to your family placement and being able to see them with less travel. I know you will truly enjoy planning and planting your new gardens.

“Almost heaven.....” I had a brother-in-law from WV who was always humming or singing that song!!! Beautiful state. Exciting to be planning and working in new gardens. More exciting to be close to your children.

Julia, wishing you and your family wonderful future times in both your new gardens and new home. A possible bonus.......you might have some assistance from family that are closer now . Have an uneventful move and I am looking forward to lots of pictures of your new gardens when they are both in progress and when done .

Thank you all for the well wishes. My husband has already said he wants two magnolia trees on either side of the driveway. I want a row of daylilies with other perennials mixed in along one side at least LOL. Pics will be coming once we start planning out.

Shepherdstown is in a fairly mountainous area, isn't it? As a boy scout, we took a train to Harper's Ferry right near there and hiked the Appalachian Trail to Gettysburg PA. Nice area. Gettysburg is a great place to visit and only around 1 hour away. You aren't that far from Lancaster PA, 2 1/2 hours, one of our very favorite places to visit. Amish cooking is the best, and wonderful farmers markets and roadside stands in the summer. Lots to see. I grew up in Uniontown Pa, about 2 1/2 hours nw from there and went to Messiah College near Harrisburg PA, also not too far away. DC is in theory only an hour away, but traffic is awful.

Also, WV is fairly relaxed on the covid mandates. Though they have some sometimes, most people there ignore them.
