The usual Two -week spring or not?

It does appear our two weeks of spring may already be here in Alabama, and I am spending as much time as possible in the garden since our miserable summer usually quickly follows on the brief spring. It is a bit early, but we have been near 80 a couple of days already, and it surely looks like spring with roses busily leafing out, Daffodils blooming and the snowball trees have bloom clusters forming.

Easter always means a very cool or cold snap and the lilies have recovered from the scalded look they had after the little snow and freeze so I hope it is just relatively not really cold. We are still having quite cool nights, but it isn't freezing. Some folks are planting veggies in the ground already, but the last freeze date is next month, not in March, so too soon for tomatoes and the like fo me. I am enjoying the warm temps and hopefully getting ready for the season. Blooms may start late next month, we will see.

Spring is either here or very near.

It's been nice here too but like Debra, I am worried about those late freezes. Last year we had them and we didn't get nearly the bloom in the first year seedlings that we usually do.

My earliest daffodils are blooming. I hope we have more than a two-week Spring this time. And I'm crossing my fingers for no late freezes in April.

Still have a bit of snow to melt. Three days around 60 degrees will fix that. Can’t wait to see blooms from you.

We have had snow on St. Patrick's day in the past, which is our usual beginning of gardening date. Like everyone else, I'm hoping for no late spring freezes. Enough plants may have been lost because of that super cold front that dipped down south this year.......Maryl

Sherry, I don't know if it will be quite as early as usual due to the polar freeze we had even this far south...Maryl, I lost three of the new ones from last year, but I had already ordered a couple of new ones, so no problem with where to put the newest ones.

Kay: I'm sorry to hear you lost some but it's interesting too. I didn't know if that horrible arctic system got down to you all or not. I'm beginning to clean up some of the foliage on my potted daylilies and have been surprised that so many look passable (so far anyway). There will be casualties though. Forecast is for rain and possible freezes this week-end. Rats on the freeze.................Maryl

Maryl, we had enough cold and freeze to render the appearance of having boiling water poured over the ones that were trying to grow too fast (thanks to the earlier too warm weather). The later growing lilies are fine and unaffected. We haven't got aother another freeze forecast yet, but we are supposedly going to have lower than normal temps the last half of the month. We will see if that happens, but it isn't unusual. Today is sunny, warm (supposed to be high 70s ) and so on for the next week to ten days.

I need to get outside and do a little weeding and I will, but just had the first vaccine today and not quite, quite. NOt a lot, but I will wait a bit to go outside.

Kay: Hope your feeling better. We have warmed up a lot here in NY the past couple of days but cold temps are coming again this weekend. Harsh north winds will have us putting on the hats, gloves and heavy coats again. I saw the early yellow crocus blooming in the front yard. My fingers are crossed that we can get moved before another snow event happens here. Movers are scheduled for Monday so the push is on here to get everything done. My daughter who lives in Maryland has been taking care of our cat Marley at her place for the past week so we have one less thing to worry about. How are your kittens you had taken in?

Thank you, Julia, I am fine now and looking forward to having the second vaccine . It was 80 today, and the weekend is supposed to be warm also but cooler with a lot of rain perhaps some severe next week. It is March in the south so that is tornado season, but hopefully not here.

I know that you are beyond busy trying to get everything done for your move and, as always, that is just the beginning but I am sure you have it all planned out. The kittens are just very happy healthy cats now. The ferals whose mom and siblings were killed by dogs settled down in their own way; the blond boy almost immediately, the gray strip boy mush slower and I despaired of the black female ever really tamin but in the end, she decided I was mom and she is the most loving of all, and also the smallest. they all are quite healthy and have lovely thick coats which they will soon be shedding. Only one bottle -fed one has long air which is good. We have a great deal of fun with the kittens. I am sure your Marley wil be glad to be back home even if it isn't the one he is used to, the people are.
