'Shorter' is one way of putting it. I have to move it since it is being engulfed by coreopsis. Even in years like this one, where we don't get cold enough for winterkill to be an issue, it doesn't get very big.

It's a wee bit of a rose, lol. If it weren't a Louis Lens rose, I'd doubt the stated heritage. It's smaller than any of my other musk roses by a good amount. It's smaller than all my polyanthas. As a matter of fact, it's my smallest (mature) rose, period. If I didn't have three in a clump, I'd have probably misplaced it or let be overgrown by something else by now, lol. But I LOVE it.

Thank you both! My picture does not show the charm of the blooms. It's really quite charming. I think it'll be suitable for the front of a bed or just to leave in a pot. A small growing rose can be just what's needed....and this one blooms often too.

The parentage is Ballerina (according to hmf) and we have neglected Ballerinas growing at Homedepot to about 18-24 inches. This seems prettier than Ballerina. Can anyone describe it's scent?

I got one becasue of this thread, but helpmefind says it is nearly thornless and mine has thorns. What's yours like for thorns?

Is that you Anne over at the garden site? I linked to the Lens site where it didnt mention anything about it being low thorn. Some stunning pictures though. I dont know why this hasnt been on my radar. I know FreedomGarden carries it sometimes. Does anyone else not on HMF? Gorgeous pictures, erasmus.

erasmus_gw...I got it from RVR. They had roses early Dec and we had such mild weather, it was a Christmas present. it was just the "thornless", thing at HMF.

I LOVE this rose! I just ordered it from RVR this year and it is in a pot in partial shade on my back porch. Pictures of the blooms don't do it justice, they positively glow! My boyfriend who normally gives me the side eye about my newfound rose addiction even admits that he really likes this one. He said it looks like "translucent velvet"

Oh, no! You guys may have done it again. It has turned out that hybrid musks love my climate conditions, and I am always wishing for a rose which will stay a reasonably smaller size among my giants. AND I love roses whose blooms change color. I may be doomed. Does anyone grow it in Calif? Does it like true full sun, or partial, in zone 9/10?

Oooh, delicious! My Ballerina and both Sally Holmes roses are not staying small in my climate and they are both such happy roses that I’m thinking Hybrid Musks like it here. I am adding this lovely little thing to my wishlist for sure.

I bought it from RVR (still in stock right now!) and they have it listed as a shade tolerant variety. The blooms on my baby plant seem to last a long time on the bush, too and stay really pretty for at least a week or more.

I'm looking for a HM with nice color to fill a spot at the garden I get paid to do. I'm wondering though, do they actually prefer some shade? This would be full sun morning to night, don't want something that would fry.

Thank you, Reb! That one was on my list, so I went and ordered it right away. Of course, while I was ordering from them anyway, I ordered several others; Perennial Blue, Clementina Carboneri, Mme Lombard, and Bubble Bath.

Reb....I grew this rose in full sun and the coloring was beautiful! It was multi-colored and very distinctive. I moved it to part sun (morning sun, part afternoon shade) thinking it would make the colors even better, but the oppsosite happened! It's now more of a uniform dark pink. This is a hybrid musk I'd recommend for full sun (at least in the PNW). Also, for me, the flowers last and last on the bush! I just love them.
