Honestly I never understand the big deal with natural light in a bedroom since you mostly use it at night. But in this case is the desk an actual work space and is this the only window? If the only window there is actually no egress from the space in a fire so maybe let us see the whole space .

I think bed area looks adorable! Is there clearance for your head when standing up from chair at desk?

The small space with desk and chair is at the top of the stairs with the doorway to the right going into bedroom. It is not used as a desk and I mostly put picture frames on it. I just happened to have the desk and an extra chair. They are decorative.

The reason I was thinking of moving the bed is so I can open the window along with more light. The desk I use is in the small area i side the bedroom so I spend a lot of time up there.

If it’s not too labor intensive, you could always move the bed (with help?) to see what you like best. I really think it’s pretty the way you have it, but you may fall in love with it the other way!

This is probably way more than you want to do, but wondering how eliminating that wall between desk you use and decorative desk would enhance lighting situation and give you a larger office area. Could you move the door to a new space...to be right where you come up from stairs? I know...money and labor. Yikes.

Could you provide a photo from stairs to see what that odd nook looks like from that angle?

I would just be wary of that window in your space on opposite wall/ceiling shining in my eyes every morning.

Get some heavy socks and strong friend and move the bed to where you think you want it. Then sleep there a few nights. Cover the window if you need to prevent the sun from waking you up too early. If you love that arrangement, you have your answer. Both can work.
I moved my master off the “logical” large wall in my bedroom at my designers insistence. I love it but I also have the windows to either side and it’s a large room. Both arrangements are good. Try the new one and see.

A new headboard with slats will let more light into your room without moving the bed. A more modern rounded wood style or a old fashioned iron bed style would work. A chest with drawers could be a good option for your space outside the door, who doesn't need more storage?

Thanks so much. All the ideas are worth considering. It gives me so much to think about and try. The skylights all have blackout shades so I don’t have to worry about the morning sun. I’m going to get busy.

Not everybody uses their spaces exactly like you do. I hang out in my bedroom during the day sometimes, and love that it has tons of natural light. No matter what, I open the blinds every day so light can spill into the hallway, which would be dark otherwise.

Susan Stern: do you need more closet or storage space? the nook could be used for that. if it's organized really nicely, then you won't even need to put doors on it. It might need custom built ins for this.

or turn it into a tiny office, craft room, or reading nook.

As for the bed-- like others said, give the new arrangement a try! Maybe the new layout won't be as pretty, but if it makes the room function better, than that's a win in my book. Look for a shorter bed base w/o a headboard. Also make sure the frame is not wider than the mattress. This will gain you a few extra inches all around.

I hate window covered by furniture but in your case, the window really doesn't look obstructed. You've done a really great job in there!

What a charming room!

I love the bed where it is, but as others have suggested, there is no reason not to try it in the other position and see what you think. IMO, it might ‘block off’ the room and make it seem smaller, but you’ll never know until you try!

The best idea, if it’s not out of the budget, is @teachermurph’s suggestion to remove the angled wall so you can include the landing(?) in the office space and give yourself more space to spread out. It might also help improve heating by giving the radiator more room.

Do think about evacuation plans in case you cannot use your steps because of a fire. You certainly don't want to be moving a bed if fire is snapping at your heels. Perhaps the window in the adjoining space is adequate, but have a plan no matter what.

I've lived through very cold winters, so I wonder if there's cold from the window. Also how the heat/cold works with person near it.

The skylight is a huge help with lighting and the head board doesn't appear to actually block the window itself..

Especially like that you keep the colors light and even mostly whites rather than shrinking the room with darker colors. If / when you eventually replace the rug, consider a lighter color for it as well.

And yes, the headboard is definitely blocking the window, you can see the light that is projected onto your side walls on either side of the bed. That is a missed opportunity right there. An iron headboard would tie in nicely with your blue area rug as well as match the hardware on your wicker bench at the foot of the bed and add some contrast to the white theme. I like where the bed is placed currently, it makes sense as a focal point in a long narrow space.

Very nice, if you move the bed you won't have the head room you have now. I love it.
