Boxwoods, Hydrangeas, Ground Cover? Oh my!

Good Afternoon All!

I'm trying to get a good image/drawing of an idea that I have FINALLY landed on for my landscaping.

Here are my inspiration pictures and my attempt at creating the vision. Is there anyone that can help me with a picture that is cleaner and rendered by an actual artist/planner? I would be very grateful for any such drawings. I'm trying to see what else I can do with it after I can "see it."

I am in Chicago - Zone 6a

I welcome ANY and all added ideas regarding flowers or bushes.

I feel like I am almost there and ready to start working on this April Week 1 or maybe earlier if this weather would cooperate. :)

Whereabouts are you in the Chicago area? I'm guessing you are in the city if you are thinking you are Z6. Do you really want boxwoods?

Please if you have a referral for a landscape designer, please direct me to their page.

If you know of an easy to use software, please let me know. I’ve tried a couple of online ones and they are not that user friendly.

You can find local landscape designers by checking out the Find Professionals tab at the top of this page. Just input what you are looking for and your zip code and you will receive a listing of designers working in your area.

The Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD) is also a good place to look. Their Find a Designer function will generate similar results as the Houzz search, except that these are industry certified.

It's all about what you like! I do often see the Boxwoods looking a little ratty here though. If you are seeing healthy ones in your neighborhood you may be in a warmer area than I am - I'm a z5 for sure. I would suggest you not try blue hydrangeas like the ones in your inspo pic - the Macs are iffy here. Paniculatas (Full sun - Limelight, Vanilla Strawberry, Quickfire - smaller Vanilla Sundae, Little Quickfire, etc.) and Arborescens (Part shade - Annablelle, Incrediball) do fine. Looking at the area that you want to put them you would probably want the smaller varieties. I'm a messy gardener, boxwood is to formal for me lol. Lots more fun things to plant. If you are in the city Gethesmane is supposed to have good landscape stuff, haven't been there though. Chalet up on the North side. Both are pricey but should be able to make suggestions. Growing Place in Naperville. There's some good places around!
