Brick Staining - Ranch House

I always think red brick house is simple but classic yet our 1960s ranch is crying for help. I’m not a fan of the beige/taupe vinyl paint color and the entire home just look really dark especially with these bricks’ color fading over the years. Heard brick staining could be an option as it’s supposed to be permanent or last much much longer than painting without keeping bricks from breathing. Anyone has experience or can advice what is to change if you are against brick staining/painting? Thank you all!

Wouldn't staining the brick make things darker?

I think the featureless beige triangle of the front gable visually dominates your house. The thin white columns also look insubstantial next to the mass of the gable and the visual solidity of the garage.

Possibly the columns could be wrapped in brick to match the house and garage. Maybe brick bases and slightly tapered off-white tops to the columns, to echo the light colored upper walls?

Windows in the garage door, in line with the existing band of windows, would make the garage look .ote like part of the house.

The color of the brick is secondary to the size of that gable end in front, it dominates! That has to be dealt with first. I think a major reframing of the front half of the roof is in order, make the garage gable the width of the garage and make the roof over the porch a shallower roof coming out of the main roof in back. Actually, that is exactly how a previous home of mine was framed.

While all the trees look beautiful, it will be a dark house, unless those trees are thinned out a bit, no matter what you do. I do like your brick, and like others, think that large triangle of siding overwhelms the house. Thinking maybe if the vinyl were the same color as the brick, maybe it wouldnt look quite so overwhelming.

@Issac I thought there’s masonry/concrete paint in various colors that could be used and I intended to stain it in gray. I cannot stand a light orange house lol it’ll kill me!

@formulaross20 that’s a really good point but now it’ll be another couple years before we change the roof. It’s a definitely weird look house. Wonder if any landscape change will help a little

@Isaac sorry I think I cross read the comments. I now see the point of the triangle top “eating” the entire house. It’s a problem but not something we can afford to change now but it’s on my list! Thanks so much!
