i would have shoved them back in the ground.. a foot or two over.. and marked them with a random stick ... and see if anything happened ... whats to lose ..

if they popped up i would have been pleasantly surprised ...

and if they didnt.. i wouldnt have wasted media.. a pot.. and a lot of worry about it all ..

Intersectional's better known as Itoh's can grow from small pieces of root. Give it a try.

I did this same thing last year and planted the root pieces in a pot and forgot about them until now. I just went into my backyard and found the pot and I have three stems coming up this year. I did not see any growth last year when this happened so be patient. Not sure how long until I can get a bloom but definitely not this year as they are leaves only and very small. Best of luck.
