If it were me, I'd rent a large jackhammer for the weekend and remove the edges of the pool to about 1' below ground level. Punch some decent size holes in the bottom to aid in drainage. I'd throw the debris in the bottom of the pool. Then I'd have a yard materials outfit fill the whole thing with good quality topsoil and compact it. After a few months you might have a bit of settling and have to add a couple more inches of dirt. If you hire a contractor to demolish it completely, I suspect it will cost a lot more than the DIY approach as it will be a lot more work, and there may be quite an amount of concrete to haul off and dispose of properly. If there is room to get heavy equipment into the area, then they would be able to attach a hydraulic concrete breaker to a backhoe and bust it out more quickly than using a jackhammer. Whatever you decide to do, you will also have to deal with removing wiring and terminating it properly in an electrical box unless the circuit is already disconnected. It would also make sense to remove or cap any piping to the pool.

Finally, this probably requires a permit, so you should start by checking into that and also see if city inspectors can provide advice.
