kitchen Appliances

I'm looking to purchase all new kitchen appliances and am leaning towards Kitchen Aid. My main want is that they A- don't sing to me and B- and easily repaired by a local technician. so... NOT SAMSUNG!
Kitchen Aid is moderately expensive but I'm happy to pay as long they are worth it. I included the models I'm considering.

Check out a local independent dealer, whatever brands you choose. We saved about 10% over HD/Lowes/Best Buy 'sale" prices on one of the frequent holiday sales (President's Day).

I agree with cpartist. Not one of my appliances in my kitchen is the same brand. I went by function, features, reviews and price to choose which appliances would work best for me. Bosch dishwasher, Bluestar range, Vent-a-Hood range hood, LG fridge, Electrolux warming drawer.

None of my appliances are the same brand either....but all are stainless/paneled which is the only thing that matters for looks.

We put two KA dishwashers in our new kitchen (new build) and so far, so good. I love ours. They clean well and I like that they are heated dry. We are still technically in the break-in phase, I suppose, so my opinion may be different a year from now. I've also owned 2 Bosch dishwashers in the past (a 100 series and an 800 series) and they both cleaned well. They just didn't dry and DH was adamant about heated dry.

I am disappointed in my KA double oven, though. It takes forever to preheat and the controls are a little wonky. I also don't think the temperature is entirely accurate, either. Our cookies seem to burn very easily in it or it cooks the top and not the bottom.

My KA fridge is fine. So far so good. Nothing extraordinary about it. It works :) We got the model that has water inside the door and ice in the freezer because in my house, the exterior ice and water dispensers always get nasty. I didn't mind losing freezer space to the ice container as a) We have a full size freezer and an extra fridge/freezer combo in our pantry and b) we have an undercounter Sonic ice maker so we only use the ice in the freezer to put in coolers.

I went with a Wolf 36" induction cooktop and LOVE it!

We got all our appliances from Ferguson's and they had better deals than Lowe's and HD, especially using our friend's contractor discount.

I have been very excited about having a Bosch dishwasher (800 Series) until a friend of mine recently purchased an 800 Series to replace her umpteen years old Bosch. She says that the bottom rack does not stay on the tracks. Since it was under warranty, they order another, and the latest is doing the same thing! Dishes have broken when the rack suddenly falls. Since most all other of my appliances are KA, I was thinking of changing to a KA dishwasher. Now I am not sure. And I did not realize that the Bosch did not heat. :(

My microwave is the Sharp drawer.

Bosch dishwashers do heat ... the water. They don't have a heater specifically for drying. Drying is a function of residual heat in the dishware from the final rinse water.

Yes, Bosch dishwashers do heat the water -- they just don't have a heated dry cycle.....and I've come to discover I love that. It means that I can put whatever dishes I want want in whatever location, because the lower rack gets no hotter than the upper rack.

Oh, and I love my KA fridge.

...And now Bosch has the Crystal Dry cycle that leaves dry dishes...but I never use that cycle ;)

I know you should buy the best of each category of appliances but when we renovated our kitchen I was overwhelmed by the time I got to appliances so I went with all JennAir. I purchased an induction cooktop, double convection ovens, and a fridge. The dishwasher was at no charge because I bought all the other items. That was in 2013 and I love each appliance with the exception of the dishwasher. I don’t hate the dishwasher, it does it’s job but it’s a meh. Take the advice of others and choose the best no matter which manufacturer because I think I just happened to get very lucky.

The range uses AquaLift cleaning system, it's a disaster!! Look up the thread on this forum. Run away from it!! Get a GE.

lucky998877 - I have ordered the DW with Crystal Dry cycle. I feel better about that. Thanks!

Now I have a friend telling me the the Bosch DW is smaller in capacity than the KA DW. We are getting the 800 series. Any knowledge of that being true? Friend says that her KA dishwasher, that she loves, is larger than her daughters new Bosch DW. I think the KA DW is about 10 years old.

boba1 - Are you talking about the KA range? I am getting the KFGC506JSS model.

i am another proponet of get each appliance according to features that are important to you.

we have 3 different brands and bought each for their features, reviews, 'durability', reliable company and price.

Frig: Liebherr - cheaper than SZ and had great reviews & we got a hefty rebate. its so quiet!! no complaints at all!!

DW: Miele - only heard great things

Induction cooktop: Miele - it was between Wolf and Miele and i liked the layout better on the Miele.. Love Induction, will never go back to anything else!!

Speed Oven: Miele - great reviews and we did not want a microwave drawer or on the counter. this is the appliance multiple times a day every day. would never be without it! LOVE

Full Size Wall Oven: Wolf - great reviews, reliable company and we got the floor model which reduced our cost. still received full warranty. no complaints at all, its a beast !

all are now about 8 years old and no issues - fingers crossed as i type this!!

do shop at local appliance dealers, we did very well!!

@nhb22, I like the interior of my KA dishwashers better than the Bosch 800 series I had before. My KA’s are also very quiet at 39 dB.

While I think Bosch are great dishwashers, in my case, buying two that were equivalent to the KA’s I got would’ve been about $400 each more or $800 total. That‘s about the price I paid for each of my KA’s. Plus DH wanted heated dry anyway.

I wasn't sure what model range you were interested in, but now that I know specifically which one it is, I looked in the manual and it is true self-clean. So you're good to go with that commercial grade range.

As for the dishwasher, European designed dishwashers are smaller due to European counters and cabinets being slightly shallower in depth and width and impacts capacity.

boba1 - Well boo!!! That's the first time I have heard of that! I have made such a big deal to my Ferguson rep about getting us a BSHX878ZD5N dishwasher, that I cannot change now. We have been using a smaller dishwasher in a rental and seems we are running it every other day. Driving me crazy! If for some reason we cannot get the Bosch, I will change to the KA. Thanks you, shead.

About all appliances of same brand (Refrigerator, Range, Over the range microwave, Dishwasher, Washer, and Dryer. We did that 7 years ago. All kitchen appliance SS,

    Washer/Dryer in white.

Great first few days an then the problem started:

    1. Range grates were designed such a way it would not hold the curved bottom wok (Clearly this is not Samsung issue, but we ended up switching with Frigidaire range). This range is going strong so far. Not sure how Samsung would have held up

    2. Dishwasher: Started giving problems. Three visits for repair and eventually got it replaced under extended warranty. Got Whirlpool Gold. Been great so far

    3. Fridge is already having issues with sheet of ice accumulating under crisper drawer. Fixed it twice myself by looking at youtube videos. Seems to be a common problem with Samsung fridge. Otherwise, its working fine

    4. Over the range microwave: Samsung broker in 3 years or less. Replaced with Frigidaire to go with Frigidaire range. Its making weird noises anyway.

    5. Clothes washer: Broke in few years, replaced with another Samsung and so far so good.

So, basically started with ALL Samsungs and now we have three diff brands: Samsung, Frigidaire, and Whirlpool

    Samsung is the freaking worst

Yeah no more. I’d like to try LG. Let’s see.

"I’d like to try LG. Let’s see."

LG gets a lot of hate, I think because service isn't available everywhere, but they have an excellent reputation for front-load washers, and I've happily had an LG induction range for 3 years so far.

If you are looking to purchase all new kitchen appliances from regular to high-end, it's worthwhile to check out the fulls rating of a specific model and multiple types of a refrigerator, dishwasher, range cooktop, electric wall oven, washer & dryer brands.

    1. Research specific appliances, considering the brands and differentiating factors in each category to choose the appliance with the features, performance, and style that best meet your needs; Consumer reports will give you an analysis; of the top appliances along with their star energy ratings.

    2. Budget and consider how much you want to spend on appliances. Create a vision for your new kitchen, choose your kitchen layout first, then choose an appliance that fits. If you fall in love with a bottom freezer refrigerator, will you have room for two electric wall ovens and a cooktop?

Save big, compare prices, use coupons, find holiday sales, and closeout deals at the price points for any kitchen appliances brands.

    3. Warranty - Also, recommend is getting an extended warranty on any expensive appliances is worth it. For example, if you purchase a refrigerator for $1,200, and the extended warranty is 15% of the refrigerator price or less, your warranty should cost $180 or less. At this price, it's very important to note the years of coverage and deductible amount.
