We let the kids pick their colors. Our girls wanted pink and green, so we did both, plus some orange.

Lime green, bright yellow and white "mod" flowered wallpaper, lime green shag rug, bright yellow windowseat....at the time it was very hip...straight out of Seventeen magazine...we loved it. Wish I had a picture.

I loved my yellow bedroom growing up. Yellow walls with a purple bedspread. Light, airy, and cheerful. Perfect for a young girls room.

Lavender walls with an aubergine carpet. My parents let me pick my color scheme. I continued the tradition with my children. It's wonderful to have a room that allows children to creatively express themselves. Ask and then listen... You will be pleasantly surprised by the results.

Powder blue. It was pretty with the French Provincial furniture. I, however, wanted bright green and yellow. I also wanted (but never got) fuzzy foot prints up the wall and across the ceiling. Yes, I too grew up in the '60s.

I don't know why!?? .. but in the 70's, baby blue walls were all the rave! O_O OH! complete with shag carpeting, yes!

I used to be an art therapist and I noted that certain shades of blue have a coming effect. (sky blue) it's gives all of us a sense of peace and "everything's fine". I like that idea so my girls shared a room that was cream and blue,....much the same as I did when I was a child.. It's all a matter of what you grew up with don't you think. Any color as long as you and your babe enjoy it...WORK JUST FINE.

My room, my brothers' room, and my parents room were all a banana yellow color. I guess there was a sale on that color. I had a bedspread with yellow, green & white. I like yellow in other people's houses, but I never want to have yellow in mine. My mom hasn't gone back to yellow again either! We were overloaded with it!
I'm getting ready to paint my kids' rooms soon. My son has a lot of UK sports posters and signs so we are going to paint the walls a medium/light gray. My daughter wanted pink so we are going with pale pink walls, so as not to overload! Other items in the room will be various shades of pink with some green or turquoise thrown in to break it up.

I just wouldn't go for any color or painting technique that will be time consuming to paint over, (i.e. blackboard paint, any really dark red, etc. as it will require several coats of primer prior to repainting), as you will be redecorating several times as your child grows and their taste changes.
