Well, I figured no objections meant it was a good idea. I chose a 5 gal Pink Champagne and planted it about 3 inches deeper than the crown. Will post later this summer with an update.

I don't grow clematis or windmill palms, but from a design standpoint I think it looks great!

One thing I've read about clematis is that they like their roots to stay cool. Gardeners often put a couple of large flat rocks over the roots or pile on a thick mulch. Wishing you well. Come back and show us when it flowers! It looks like it has several big buds already. .... :-)

Interesting how you plant it 3" deeper then the crown. So it likes to start deep? How long will the vine grow to?

@B in 8a DFW, are those Ligustrum 'Sunshine' I see on your fence line? They sure are pretty ones. I'm encouraged the six I just planted in my intersection corner bed out front may one day look that good.

@buttoni_8b Yes, they sure are and thanks. They are growing a lot faster than i expected.

@memetexas It's just 3 inches deeper than normal plants and trees are planted. Not sure if it actually helps, but I see that advice on every clematis planting instruction on the internet. Some even say 6" deeper than normal. As far as height, tag says 6-8'.
