Spider plants and Swedish Ivy are easy to care for (I deeply soak mine once every 2 weeks; repot annually) and super easy to propagate. I started off with one of each, a few years ago, and I now have half a dozen spiders. I currently only have 2 Swedish ivies because visitors ask for plants, so I give them away. :-D

The spiders produce offshoot baby plants that can be either left attached or removed at the base of the new plant. Every time my Swedes lose a green leaf (accidental or intentional pruning), I stick the stem in water, and it usually roots within a few days. Mine have lived in water for up to a few weeks, and grow quite the root system, before I stick it in soil.

Pachira aquatica (money tree) is a popular nontoxic plant, too. My kids keep killing mine, though (they water them when I'm not looking, and I lose the trees to root rot). I don't know why they like to water *that* plant and not any others....

I am *such* a lazy indoor gardener; I spend far more plant-time outside. My watering schedule is fairly consistent (and negligent, lol) -- nearly all of my plants are deeply soaked once every 14 days. The only exception I make is for the bonsai tree my husband surprised me with, a few months ago. He gets watered twice a week; I tried once a week, and he suffered too much leaf drop. I've propagated him, too, and I have 15 healthy cuttings that haven't died yet (so, I assume, after several weeks, they've rooted). lol

A touch of green will look great in your room. Sanseveria are tolerant of low light and tall so a good presence. Pothos very easy. Peace lily is another nice one. Have fun!

edited to add: Most plants won’t like that far left corner but sanseveria might be OK.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Should I get taller plants? It's a small living room so wasn't sure if I should put it on a table or a big plant in a planter

A Kentia palm in the back left near the window would be nice. Maybe keep it on a stand to get it up higher away from dog.
