I bought this thing from a neighbor a few months ago. It was originally for hanging pots in a kitchen.

When I saw it, I immediately thought it would make a great plant rack! I bought it for $20. It's really well made wrought iron. I have yet to find the perfect place in my home for it. But I'm sure one day I will!

how far down would they have to hang.. to get available light??? .. suppose it depends how tall your window are ..

i dont think you will enjoy a plant hanging down too far.. to get to a lower window ...

Not very far. The window is pretty high and the room generally has lots of light.

Ikea sells a couple of rails that can work for plants. hultarp and grundtal.

Installing a closet bar across the window is what I have done with one window. And that also allows installing a shelf across the top, just like in a closet, but we used a gorgeous slice of irregular wood as the shelf. You can paint the bar whatever color you want. This is a strong system, that can hold at least 100 lbs. The shelf wasn't across the top yet when I took this pic 10 yrs ago.
