you want to plant in fall.. when days are still warm.. but nights are cool ... so the disturbed roots have time to settle down and get pumping water for winter ... and in my case.. ground freeze ... which i am sure you know nothing about ...

plant in the right season.. you you should succeed wildly with these plants ..

Ken, you're right, Typically I plant in the spring. I planted them on a whim after our huge oak tree fell and many of the plants in the surrounding area got crushed, so I bought new ones. I didn't plant them in the fall because I have had better luck here planting in the spring compared to the fall.

Check out the Mt. Cuba research report on Echinaceas. I see you are not really Mid_Atlantic, but since you are zone 7 the trials results might give you some answers about which are the most reliable.
