No signature? The paper would tell the story. Is it really cut or just drawn? That dark line around the figure appears drawn....or is it a shadow?
If it's not cut out of paper it's not a "real" silhouette.

Yes, it is cut, but it's the white paper that's cut with the black paper underneath and then the hair and clothes details are drawn on. So it's the white paper that's cut but not the black. And no, no signature. The frame looks old (but hey the 20s/30s are old) and I've not wanted to take it apart fearing that it may be fragile if it is really old. If you would take it apart the black paper would be separate and then you would have the cutout piece for the head and chest with the collar in between.

That's an old technique called hollow cut. Probably mid to early 19th century. Appears to be in amazing condition....usually the paper of stuff like that was not such good quality and showed foxing.
You should have it reframed with acid free backing.

Thank you Linda. I paid $30 for it. I love silhouettes but I don't find many here except those from the 50s/60s when Colonial was in! The minute I saw it I felt it was old and I knew that you would know! Again, thank you so much!
