Aesthetically pleasing solution for texture sensitivity

last modified: 4 years ago

I need help finding some acceptable ways of covering up some fabrics on furniture that bother me. I’ve become overly sensitive to even mildly uneven textures since my shingles 4 years ago. The sensitivity is limited to my right arm, my entire right arm, starting at my right nape to my right wrist. With clothes, the solution is relatively simple. I’ve given away a lot of blazers and tops, many of which were my summer favoritiss, in fabrics I used to like, like slubby linen, cotton. Even some raw silk tops. (Even silk, in some weaves, is not entirely smooth.) I couldn‘t wear wool without lining, even before shingles, so that’s out anyway.

As for fabrics in furniture, the solution is trickier, as I can’t (or won’t) replace my furniture. For instance, my patio set in sunbrella fabric triggers nerve pain if my right arm is in contact with the fabric. As the weather is getting warmer, I wear short sleeves and soon will be in sleeveless tops, which will make the pain worse. Last year, I covered up the outdoor couch cushions in a king size soft cotton flat sheet in a natural, unbleached cotton color. So color wis, it doesn’t stick out too much. But the look is a little shabby.

Indoor furniture, I have similarly come up with cotton covers that I remove when we have company (back when we did).

i know I shouldn’t worry about it, and actually I don’t care that much, but if anyone here has ideas for a visually more pleasing approach, please share. TIA.
