Solid hardwood over different subfloor types

Hi - I was hoping to put down a solid hardwood floor in a room with two different types of subfloor. The room includes a part with a wood plank subfloor and an addition with a concrete slab. Is it possible to have a solid hardwood floor in this situation with the right preparation or will the different moisture levels between the two areas inevitably require me to replace the floor? If I go with hardwood, should I choose a more stable species like oak? I know engineered hardwood or tile might be an option, but I would prefer to avoid these if possible. Thank you!

You need engineered. Solid will warp like a potato chip.

Use engineered for it's stability as suggested. You can nail over the wooden subfloor and glue over concrete. Schaffer's make 3/4" engineered hardwood in standard widths, which allows you to lace engineered and solid together, for cost control.

If, you really must. You will need to grind down the concrete, make all repairs and apply two coats of epoxy or polyurethane moisture barrier, along with using a adhesive that is designed for moisture control. Then control RH in the house.

G & S indicates a concrete seal. This is required for glue down. Be aware! It adds $5-$7/sf for the concrete section. You will need to budget for it.

The alternative: FLOATING wood floor! Gets you out of the BIG cost of the concrete sealing.
