Keeping Lithodora alive in containers

I have gotten a lithodora every year around this time for a 4 years now and they inevitably die well before frost comes around. I have tried terracotta pots, very well draining potting mix etc. but sooner or later it dies on me. I have had insect infestation (gnat like but more numerous things living under and in the foliage), root rot, blackening of foliage and stems etc. my question: is it possible to successfully grow lithodora in containers as a perennial? Is it possible in my growing zone 7b? Any tips/suggestions? I am eying them again but wondering if I should get one again.
