A TV should definitely not be set in front of a window, especially if you watch during daylight, as the outside glare causes eye strain. It would be better on the left side of the fireplace with the drapes closed than over the mantle which is too high.

The fireplace is a natural focus, but what do you use the space for? I'm thinking that most of the time you watch TV here. The furniture should focus on the TV. IMO, it's easier to arrange groups of chairs and loveseats than sofas. A sofa acts like a low wall that restricts movement. Also consider angling the furniture so the TV is easily viewed from the majority of seating. Furniture does not have to square with a fireplace even if there is no TV.

Thank so much - that’s great advice. So many things we struggle with - hate it above the fireplace and hate where it is. Was thinking of changing it all around and putting it on the wall with the big flower art. Our entry is to the left of that picture.

The tv does not work on the wall with the artwork?

We have never tries it there. I was thinking of moving the art and placing a larger tv to the right of where the current art is.
