Is this an ad for business or just a photo for critique? I’m not sure how to respond to the post, so, going with an ad.

    Floor is too yellow

Nix the design over the stove

Island with its over hang, looks like a lost soul.

Why the faux Roman shades on two windows when no other windows have a treatment.

Table and chairs all one color…too dark

Table needs a chandelier and art to warm up the chilly, impersonal feel of the kitchen.

How utterly rude and uncalled for @JudyG Designs !

Holly, I think the transformation is incredible. I’m impressed with how all the elements are pulled together. Well done!

So beautiful! You are lucky the bones of the original were classic and well done. It just took a good eye to see what was needed to bring it up to date.

Is your stone marble or a manmade product? Whatever it is, it's lovely.

Holly: Lovely transformation; your cabinets look great. Enjoy!

JudyGDesigns: I can't find anything in Holly's post that would make you think it was an ad for drumming up business. She clearly took a very nice, but dark, kitchen, and infused it with light, while reusing her cabinets, hood, flooring, and some of the appliances. She even titled her post "Before and After." I am sure that each of us might have made a different choice in one place or another, but that is what home design is all about. Some like more color, some don't, some like a design behind the range, some don't.

What a great job of updating the kitchen. The floorplan was already a nice one and brightening the colour, updating the hardware, taking the curves out of the island and removing the valance off of the window really brought it up a notch. And I think (I can't really tell on my monitor) but it looks like you used a darker grey on the island. Nice job.

Can you share the name of your counter? thanks

    Looks amazing. Fabulous updates

What you've done looks great Holly! I have can lights over the dining table too. Who needs something else to dust? Love the coffee station!

Was going to say - love the coffee station! And I'm not usually into stove accents, but I love yours. The contrast between the dark counters and cabinets and your lovely glassed-in table area had to make a dark kitchen feel even darker. Love how your choices let the entire area breathe together!

I think it's a nicely done job. What color did you use to paint the cabinets? did you hire out or do them yourself?

colors are very nice. much brighter. countertop is also a nice choice. I don't usually care for stove accents, but yours is done correctly. not too busy, well placed, nice design.

Thank you for all the kind words!! I did it all myself, no general contractor, no designer - to save money. I came in $17,000 under budget for what a GC quoted me - and they did not suggest any other changes than what we made. It went relatively seamlessly considering it was just me coordinating all contractors, suppliers, etc. Yes - the original cabinets were spray painted - can't say enough positive things about this process if you have good cabinets that don't have to be changed (our were custom to the house, with great pull out drawers, etc.). I also love that with painting the cabinets, you can pick the exact paint color you want. Our perimeter cabinets are SW Repose Gray, and Island is darker Gray - BM Chelsea Gray.

Our counters are MSI Calacatta Laza Quartz - can't say enough about them - absolutely love them!

@Holly Rogers KNOCK ME OUT GORGEOUS!!!!!

You must just love your new updated space. I especially like that you kept the floors. I just love how the gray and whites make the floors look dreamy. The darker island is really cool too. Truly Beautiful.

Can you list the things you updated and how? It might be helpful for others trying to plan their space. Are these cabinets painted or brand new? They look so nicely done that its hard to tell. Did you change the light fixtures? How about the counter top what surface is it. What color paint on the walls? Funny I actually like the old kitchen too but this update is so pretty.

    Thanks in advance.

You really brightened things up—well done! Enjoy your new space!

Very nice! What a wonderful change :) One day when your current dishwasher dies, I would do a paneled one to let your cooktop area get all the attention. Happy cooking!

It looks so great Judy thought it was an ad! You did a wonderful job completely transforming the kitchen while environmentally saving resources by reusing the cabinets. It is a win /win!

    Nice improvement.

Nice update. Good job on painting the cabinets. Hopefully, they will give you many more years of service.

I acted as my own GC for my kitchen renovation, too. As long as you have a list of good subcontractors and an ability to organize, you will be successful. It's a satisfying feeling to complete this sort of project.

What a beautiful transformation!! I have been going back and forth as far as painting or cabinets and updating counters. After seeing this, I am going to do mine as well! Thank you so much for posting!! It is gorgeous!!
