Just off centered or off base?

last modified: 5 years ago

I will be getting a larger flush mirror with or without this fixture. Generic vanity fixture plates do center above the faucet line this one can not so I will have an electrician center a junction box over the sink. The room is a three piece main floor bath used just as a powder room.

The light is from the house I grew up in that we are prepping for sale so it has sentimental but not monetary value. I kinda dig it in my bath but not sure if that is rational or blinded by love of the past. My house does have lots of clear and opaque original globe light fixtures if that makes a difference.

Ok what do you think?

I think it's great. It has personality and is special to you ... character traits that are lacking in so many homes. It gets my vote!

Note: click on the picture to see the light.

Honestly, the fixture might look better in a corner of a bedroom. I love the mirrored cabinet, the light just doesn’t fit well In that space.

How refreshing! I vote yes. A PR of all places is a spot to take risks. I'd just make sure that the one on the right is up high enough relative to the one on the left so that it is clearly intentional

Maddie, it is a big piece in the smallest three piece bath ever! However, the two Texans are going with the go big or go home state motto, lol

^^^I know, it’s my need for balance. If you love it, keep it. If guests use the PR and come out screaming rethink keeping it.

    Lol, Maddie.

This light is right outside the bathroom door in the back hallway so the area has a globe theme if I do keep it.

I like it! I also like the vintage looking medicine cabinet.

I like it as it is (everything). I do think Mtn has a good point about raising one higher. I love items with sentimental value! I love the medicine cabinet as well. It is a great space. I also love the ceiling and the globes in your adjacent space.

Thank you for helping me decide I am calling an electrician today.

Feathers, there is almost an identical swag lamp on Etsy, lol but I thought mine were mid century double swag lights the Etsy ad says 30s. Etsy has quite a few mid century swag lighting available and other interesting lighting too. https://www.etsy.com/listing/994263295/opalescent-swag-lamp-vintage-milk-glass?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=double+swag+light&ref=sr_gallery-2-22&from_market_listing_grid_organic=1&cns=1

Considering I have five light fixtures that have been with me for the last 35yrs (and have been used in four houses), I am all for using sentimental family fixtures. Looks great in your bathroom, and I also like the medicine cabinet.

Allison I adore the tulip light you gifted to your electrician! Since I was in my twenties I have live by a motto that things should belong to those that appreciate it most and have gifted many pieces of valuable jewelry under this philosophy. I am not a jewelry person but the women on both sides of my family were so I have tons and when one compliments a piece I am so happy if they will take from me.

My grandmothers’ opal bracelet, watch and my wedding rings I appreciate the most so I will keep them but anything else in my collection holds little pull on m heart and I would rather they belong to some one who appreciates them. Your tulip fixture is where it belongs and that makes me smile!

Thank you, Roarah! Since he helped with our remodel, we have gifted him a lot of items. He is naming his new house after us. ;D But nothing made him light up like the tulip light. I was pleasantly surprised!

Like you, I am keeping the things I love (and can't imagine living without) and giving a lot away. I had a double globe floral Gone With the Wind lamp that belonged to my paternal grandparents. Haven't used it in 10 years, so just gave it to one of my cousins along with their freestanding metal washtub on legs. I have that grandmother's chunky faux pearl neckline (looong triple strand) and I think it would love lovely on my 6ft tall cousin who favors our grandmother. You've reminded me I need to send her a text and make sure I have her correct address.

Ok now I am thinking I will keep the medicine cabinet too. Thanks!

Don't hit me but I'm not sure if I like them there. Love the lamps but they seem squished. While I like the medicine cabinet, I think it's small size may play a part why the fixtures look to big in a small area. A large mirror would definitely help.

You can always put the medicine cabinet in another room. Great place for spices?

Oakley, I thought the medicine cab is too small too. Now I am second guessing my initial gut feeling because people like it. I will wait until the electrician moves the electrical box and then decide about the mirror. Thanks for your help!

I missed that you were thinking of moving the cabinet. In a word -- no!

The rich wood goes so well in there.

It must stay. I have a few from rejuvenation that look similar; is it antique?

I got it at an auction for five dollars and it is likely from the early 2000s but not sure.
