Bedroom Redecorating! Boho Chic

last modified: 4 years ago

Hello!

Looking for help redecorating the master bedroom. My biggest dilemma is the great big empty wall above the bed! We just bought a new bed frame and mattresses and got rid of our big canopy bed. I'm not used to having so much empty space. Not sure if I should get a headboard (or shelf above the bed?) I'd like to make the room have a Boho Chic look to it with lots of floral accents. I want lots of plants, some vines, flowers, lots of whites, maybe some blush and possibly a gold metal bookshelf with marble shelves. Maybe not matching end tables? I'll include a few pics that show the style I like! Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm stumped on what I should do with this wall! Open to painting and new duvet cover.

Thank you!!!

LOL @ the first pic! There's def something to say about that one ... I'm just not sure what! The last one is very pretty. So many different ways I could go ...

Maybe something will arrive today ... 😊

How exciting lee828. Been watching your post and loving your ideas. I told you i was interested in close to same style but i’m doing up our living room. One thing i think i learned the hard way, was the rug i got last year is a too vibrant? So I’ve been playing off of it except for curtains, i went with a white. Point being, i can’t purchase another as yet although i do love it, but it is very bright and throws me off of the french style that i thought i was going. It leans very boho and i ‘m liking traditional old french more now. I feel like your subtle choices in big items will help you design the rest. Anxious to see how your room comes together.

Alice Edwards. I'd love to see your rug. I feel the same way, boho is fun but I think my heart leans 'Old French' or maybe Parisian? Idk lol. It's a combo of shabby old French Paris haha.

I gave it some thought and like you mentioned stayed more subtle with the bigger purchases. I wanted a blush headboard at first but felt the cream would leave more options for change in the future with bedding. I can't wait for the mirrored dresser to arrive. I've never had anything like that.

I was thinking, what about a floor mirror on the left side since I don't have a mirror in the room and could def use one. Also it would add something higher on that side so one side isn't high and the other side very low.

Don't use a floor mirror. You don't have enough space on the left side. If you need a full length mirror somewhere in the room you'll have to find another wall. You are not going to have symmetry in the room anymore, so you can either leave the left side of the bed bare, OR look for a small end table with the same height as your mirrored chest. It will be too small for a lamp, so just put a larger lamp on the mirrored chest and leave the top of the smaller end table bare.

Maybe no table on the left and a chair with a tray on it?

If you need a full length mirror consider putting it on the wall where your framed family pictures are now propped up on the floor.

Do you think it is possible that when you actually get the mirrored chest into the room you might decide to put it and the art on the left side of the bed?

Just putting these here for some ideas

"Do you think it is possible that when you actually get the mirrored chest into the room you might decide to put it and the art on the left side of the bed?"

It would have to go in front of the window, there isn't room to move the bed to the right enough to get the mirrored piece on the solid wall on the left side.

You do have room for the mirrored chest on the left if you move the bed to the right, with the same amount of space left over in the corner that you would have had next to the window. That would also give you more walking space near your doorways. You should really wait until your chest and headboard come in to get any other furniture or even art, so you can decide how you want to arrange the room.

I meant removing the chest on the right side of the bed.

    in essnce, flip the plan

I thought about that but I wouldn't be able to stand in front of it : /

The bed would have to be close to the window on the right with no walking room on the side on it on the right if the chest goes on the left I believe. I'll measure.

I'd have approx 18-20" away from window on the right if the chest were to go on the left.

Ohhh so pretty! Love the chandelier!

I think the asymmetru of this might work since once you move the bed your ceiling fixture wont be center to the bed

ital mover. LOVE the floor lamp!

It’s sweet. I think you might not be able to tell until your headboard arrives whether you need something subtle/lightweight/no pattern on that side of the room, or whether you need something substantial and maybe some competitive flash.

This is my last comment. Stop looking at all the small and extra things you want to add to the room until you figure out the big pieces. The headboard. The end table. The second end table or not. You can't decide on anything at all for the walls or the rest of the space until you know where your bed will be placed. If you're keeping the mirrored chest on the right, you need to keep the left side bare, or find an end table less than 20" that is tall enough for the bed. That's why I encouraged you to keep your current end tables that worked very well in the room, kept your symmetry, and still went with your style.

Ha ha. Whenever anybody tells me to stop doing something fun, I do more of it. Looking is free!

calidesign. Thanks for your advice. I don't have a lot of time to get the room finished due to work. And I don't mind sending something back if it doesn't work out. But I want to keep moving forward due to my limited time. I wasn't loving the symmetry look and wanted something completely different. To me it was slightly umm ,,., BORING? I enjoy looking and getting ideas, since i'm done with the bigger pieces! : )

My headboard arrived, I'm removing it from the box right now! ✨

Hmmm .. well it arrived without legs and hardware. I'm *hoping* those arrive in another box ... but I also sent an email to the merchant just in case they don't.

    Otherwise, its so pretty!

already its bringing in more softness. of course now I'm wondering about wall color, one change always leads to more. but, still missing bedding and lamps. so will hold off on talking wall color.

    last modified: 4 years ago

So far methinks you will want some heft on the left. ;)

(But seeing the bedding is key....)

Theresa. You read my mind! I had planned on painting anyway, just wasn't sure if I should go with white, cream or blush. But waiting for bedding to see what color the petal pink will look like.

Wait till all items are in place before picking wall color. Wall color is always last and who knows the wall color you have may be all you need.

Paint color last :-) don't rush the process.

I think your cottage chest could work very well with your lovely new mirrored chest if you tweak it up a bit with glass crystal knobs and a flashy tray on top, and special lamp. You should wait for the bedding to make those choices — and maybe painting the chest pink is a possibility — but I think it looks fine for the chest to sit partially in front of the window as you have it.

Does a bedside lamp like this on the left have any appeal?

    Or one more traditional?

I think new ceiling lighting will nail the room. The only things thus far I would do differently are a new clock for the mirrored chest and no ivy valence. After you get the bedding, maybe adding a scarf valance in pink or green or a print would be a great touch, but for me the ivy doesn’t work.

    lee828 thanked User

I agree, the ivy def has to go, it was never up there I was going to use it if I did a boho room. I love the second lamp. It's so different and blends in perfectly. Bedding is delayed which is making it a bit more difficult. I was thinking of blush or maybe even a soft pale blue panel for windows? The bedding being petal pink may throw off being able to use blush on the windows. There are blue flowers in it so I thought maybe pick up that color? I have a pic for above the mirrored chest that my mom gave to me, I think I can use it. I'll post pics later : ) Its pretty and very neutral, not exactly what I was looking for but it has its own charm.

If you end up with the second double-headed lamp I posted I think there is a possibility you could 2 lamps on your mirrored chest (it’s a set you bought, yes?)

Until you see the bedding with your own eyes, on the bed, it’s probably impossible to know what you want for window treatments.
