That blue looks great. Maybe try to move the painting that you have above the sofa and place over the mantel instead of the mirror, see how that looks. That painting seems to have some the same blue in it. I find that the print to left of the fireplace is too small for that wall, it looks a little lost there. Maybe relocate it?

It’s a lovely room bit I think you’re right in wanting to add some color. You could expand on the coral tones with throws on the sofas. A rich colorful rug would also give a lot of pop! Good luck and have fun!

IMO an accent wall is going mess with the serene beauty you have already created. Before I painted I would get a larger rug with some color. Put the art from the right wall over the FP. Remove the same art from the FP wall. You need some tables with lamps also.

Thanks everyone - all great ideas ! If we had an unlimited budget we could do it all !!! Was thinking of switching the rug out so will look into that. Need to look for more pictures but we are back into lockdown and stores are closed - I have bought quite a bit online but prefer to shop in person ! Hope we’re back to normal soon

If purchasing a new area is in the budget, make sure the size is at least 8X10. Then pick a colour that’s in the rug and paint your fireplace wall with that colour.

I think a chest to the left of the fireplace, and maybe a mirror up above it would be nice.....the blue is pretty bright. I would like to see a warmer blue, maybe the Debonair. rug is a little undersized.

I think the entire room would look lovely painted, rather than just an accent wall. Something warm and elegant.

Is this room closed on three sides? What is open to it? Is your entire house painted this color?

I like the idea of cabinets - up to the mantle in height, on both sides of the fireplace. I would switch the mirror and the artwork, add a bigger rug with a big more color (blues, pinks, salmons) but subtle. Debonair paint on the fireplace wall with the cabinets the trim color - will keep the blue from being overwhelming. In other words - what everyone else said! LOL.

I’ve added a few more photos - you all have given me some great ideas ! I added the dining room at the front of the house - ideas for curtains ? The whole house was newly renovated when we bought it and is painted in popular grey(SW) - has more beige undertones. The pictures include part of the sunroom - kitchen is on other side of dining room.

The grey rug has to go - could replace it with rug near the fireplace and get a new one for there - like the idea of adding pinks and salmons! We have pink chairs and a blue couch in the sunroom

I couldn’t agree more with getting a larger rug and not doing an accent wall. If you paint the entire space, paint the crown molding the same color as your walls. Based on the photo, your crown molding looks like it is too short for your ceiling height (ie, it should be thicker), so having it painted a separate color makes it pop out and amplifies this disproportion. Also, add lots of framed artwork on either side of the fireplace and do a gallery wall. Turn your mirror vertically and flank it with two items that are taller, with a height that goes about half-way up the mirror. With respect to the gallery wall, it does not have to be expensive or fancy. You can mix in black and white photos with colorful pictures you or your children drew. Then add some beautiful custom pillows and some throw blankets. Put some objects of interest on your mantle and coffee table books on your table. Put a new light colored lampshade on the lamp (one that ties in to the colors of your pillows and throws and new larger rug), and you’re on your way to a more colorful and interesting (and personal) space. ... an accent wall might look very choppy with these elements. Painting the entire room would give the feel of a retreat, of a cozy sitting area. A jewel box in your house. :)

I’d concentrate on adding some texture instead of adding another color....a brown wicker/natural basket with a plant, a cableknit throw on the back or side of the sofa by the window, a worn leather stool/magazine holder/etc, swap out a pillow or two with same color but fuzzy or ribbed or with fringed trim.

Invest (as in, spend a lot) in a well-made, larger rug and then pick a colors from that for the wall color(s). We painted our fireplace wall to sort of match the stone in the fireplace (kind of a dull khaki grey/green) so the fireplace didn't pop so much, but that's not your problem here. I'd love to see some low bookcases/floating shelves on either side, with artwork & treasured pieces on top perhaps? The room has a sort of beach-y vibe - if you live in a warm area, blue (as above) is a good choice. If you live where it snows in the winter, I'd lean towards a warmer color for an accent wall.

It’s a beautiful home. I think you are missing some house plants, green living things really add a lot to a space. Then as you are able to get out and about look for nice colorful original art, or craft art pieces that speak to you. These are the things that personalize a home.

Please don‘t do an accent wall! Your room and new home has a rare look of serenity about it. You need some new ‘stuff’ and some different ‘stuff’ but it really looks like you’re on the right track. Accent walls, for the most part, yell “hey look at me”. by the photos you’ve shown that’s not how YOU decorate. Go with your gut and when you purchase something new make sure you can return if it doesn’t ‘feel’ right.

I agree with the comments about not adding an accent wall. If you want to change the paint color, paint all walls the same. I definitely think the room needs a larger rug with colors. You can pick colors from the rug for accent pillows, art work , etc. The painting on the left of the fireplace is too small for the space . Either do that as a gallery wall or get one large painting . You have a beautiful home!it just needs some pops of color.

It is similar - thank you ! I have been looking for colourful rugs for a while but as I said, it is a work in progress ! I think you’ve all talked me out of an accent wall ! I just find the neutral paint very boring and sterile ! Definitely need more “stuff”

People tend to freak out around here at the thought of mixing patterns, but to me it‘s what elevates a home from being bland and safe, to looking beautiful, individual, and collected. (Except in purposely monochromatic schemes, which I love, too, but I think you‘re wanting some pizazz.)

If you have the budget, it would be nice to have built-ins on either side of your fireplace. This can be done at a low cost with Ikea cabinets, you can look-up ideas online.

Looking at the overall look of your house, I would look into changing your accessories instead of painting. Your wall colour looks quite nice online. However, although your accessories are coordinated, they lack in punch. I would get coordinated darker shades of blue pillows and buy feather inserts so that the pillows can stand-up rather than lie down on the sofas. You also need a larger artwork above the sofa. The area rug can also be in a darker shade of blue so that the sofas will stand out and it should be large enough for your furniture to sit on the carpet (at least the front) rather that have a rug that sits in front of the sofas. Your coffee table and mantel also need to be accessorized. Here are some ideas:

For your dining room: I think white drapes on a black rod would look clip and nice with your wall colour. Again, I would put colour in the accessories. Since you don't have a pendant/chandelier, you can have a fairly large table centrepiece to give the room punch. I would suggest you reupholster your chair seats in a light colour (can be off-white or a blue/white/beige print that will coordinate with your living room. I would think this is can even be a DIY project. you can also consider to have some seat covers done which can be easily removed for washing. Your buffet also needs some dressing up. Here are a few ideas:

You have a beautiful serene room. I noticed the mirror over the fireplace just reflects the ceiling. I’d switch the placement of the beach painting with the mirror. Beach painting over fireplace brings in color, mirror over sofa reflects the incoming light from across the room. Then reassess the space.
