i like a tall one.. so if i need to set it down to pick a weed or something.. i dont have to bend too far over ...

and the bigger they are.. the taller they are ... so less bending .... its not written in stone.. that you need to fill it all the way up .. and never forget that ...

i had a 3 gal one that was great.. but i got tired very fast of hoiking around 21 pounds of water at the end of my arm .. and it only took me a month or two to figure out.. duh.. i could use it for one gal... doik ...

i needed a new one.. and i went with the cheapest 2 gal i could find .. actually i only went to ace and bought it ... cheapest is best.. imo ... but why wate 5 bucks on gas to get one 3 bucks cheaper.. eh???

next.. fill it with about a gal of plain water .. take it to the driveway ... and learn how to use it ... how to adjust the nozzle and water pressure ... to make a course spray .. big drops fall to the ground.. this isnt french perfume.. no reason to atomize it ... gravity was important when i was using roundup ... i did NOT want drifting ... i wanted it where i wanted it .. [and since you are an artist.. dont think of it as a spray gun type pressure...]

so you are in the 20 buck range ... you really dont need anything fancier.. read that.. more expensive ...

test how long your stuff will stay good in the tank ... might last days or weeks .. just go out at dusk and find a sacrificial slug.. and see if he dies .. if so.. the spray is still good ...

applications ... stick the wand inside the plant canopy .. and spray the undersides .. and let it run down the petioles to the ground .... avoid finding out if it will burn your plants .. never spray in sun .. and do spray the surrounding ground ...

and i dont see any reason to limit yourself to the hosta... do all surrounding plants ... i mean they are not traveling miles to get to their favorite plants every night.. but any plant a few feet away can be a hiding spot ...

i found a slug under a flat of veg seedlings yesterday ... you are probably beyond just egg killing.. whether you want to admit it or not ...

im not sure you will get the same impact as a true drench .... but the more often you do it.. the less there will be.. one momma killed in spring is thousands that wont be there in late summer ...

and it is a contact kill ... so it has to be done.. when they are on the move and will be hit ... dusk or dawn ... or a few hours either way.. but dont bother in the heat of the day ...

10% ammonia or vinegar ... whichever is cheaper .. and dont forget the pickling aisle for bulk containers of vinegar ...

ps: especially with roundup... if you feel a sneeze coming on ... put down the tank.. and let go of the wand before you sneeze ... or you might spray everything for feet around.. same if the squeeters are after you.. dont try to slap them off with an active sprayer in your hand.. lol .. put on more bug juice ...
