is this fishbone cactus ok?

I got this plant almost two months ago from a friend. It had been used as a "mother plant" for making cuttings for propagation. So I'm wondering if a lot of the brown spots are actually just "scabbing" from healing from the cuts.

However I cannot figure out the purplish-brown looking stems in the center bottom of the plant. Is this some kind of disease? Also you can see some of the tips are a brightish yellow/brown and somewhat mushy.

I haven't watered in about 2-3 weeks, just to be sure there wasn't an issue with overwatering. The plant is sitting about 10 feet from a SE facing window.

Maybe the little guy with the red hat knows.

The brown papery thing is common with indoor cacti. So try the Garden Web Cacti & Succulents forum, maybe somebody will pop right up with answers.

im not watching a video.. so if i missed something.. oh well ...

you have it 2 months ... it was stressed from moving .. with all cultural variables changed ... it was stressed ... its getting over it ...

it was also abused as a cutting plant .. which is fine.. that was its job ..

it has what looks like a lot of vigorous new growth ... im not sure anything is wrong with it .. so i would be tempted to not try to fix what might not be broken ...

water a plant when it needs it.. you need to figure out how to find that out .. with such a congested pot ...

i would defer to the cacti peeps suggested above ..

make sure there is something to fix.. before you start fixing it ..
