Need landscape ideas

I'm definitely not good at landscape design. I need ideas on what to use to fill-in, between the firepower nandina clusters. We had them in a curved row and recently transplanted all of them (posting both photos). We live in zone 7, morning to early afternoon sunshine. I would prefer deer resistant plants but willing to use netting to deter them from snacking. The small group of flowers along the sidewalk can be transplanted.

Maybe I should plant annuals to get by this summer and plant shrubs in the fall?

I'm open to any ideas. Thanks!

Ditto!! Beautiful home and nice space for developing a lovely garden. Are shrubs what you really want? If so, there is no reason to wait until fall to plant.

If you planted perennials and accented with annuals, that would probably be easiest. There are many plants that could grow well in the sun conditions you describe. If you want flowers, day lilies have a huge variety of colors and blooms.....and of course they return year after year. I think the bed near the door filled with lilies would be lovely.

In shadier parts of your yard, planting hostas, Heucheras, grasses, ferns, bleeding hearts, hellebores, to name a few would give a nice presentation. If possible, I recommend going to some garden centers or botanical gardens. Walk through and see what you like. Chances are, if the garden is in your area, the plants displayed will grow well in your garden. Good luck! See what others think too, I am not a landscaper, but a determined gardener!! :-D

big city name would be better than low winter temp.. which is all zone is ...

and a pic of the whole front of the house would probably help ...

Thanks for the input, I live in metro Atlanta.

It's kind of hard to get the whole house. I took a few different angles, all a work in progress.

What a beautiful home and lot! You might want to have a look at HortTube with Jim Putnam's videos about landscape planning on youtube. He's in zone 7, North Carolina. He explains things really well.

update: I watched Jim's foundation plants/shrubs video last night, very informative without being too long. Thanks for the recommendation!

Thanks Debra, I forgot about bleeding hearts, I love those and fuchsia too. I have some hostas, but they don't last long once the deer find them.

Honestly, I don't know what I want between the nandinas. You mentioned a mix of perennials and annuals, which would be less of a commitment if I don't like what I do. Mexican petunias would be a good size in comparison to the nandinas.

Bergenia would be a nice addition for a contrasting leaf shape.

I had to look up Bergenia, I've never heard of it before. It's very pretty! Thanks, I will ask my local nursery if they have it or can get it.
