I don't know if you remember the story of my Striptease..I bought a plain hosta at a small very cute pricey garden center..the tag said Striptease..I didn't know what Striptease looked like..so my "Striptease" isn't Striptease..Lol

YPDB changes like Hanky Panky, but sort of in reverse. YPBD will look like Striptease should look in 1-2 months. Betcha it would do well near a Krossa.

I'll carry YPDB around and see what kind of a home I can find..🙂

I always thought YPDB was just like Hanky Panky, so I never got one. Someone posted they look different in early spring and a picture just posted sure looks different to me. Here are my thoughts about Hanky Panky which should also apply to YPDB. I think if it is planted in shade, it ends up looking like Striptease (but still better IMO). I'd give it some sun, but not too much. The sun brings out the yellow in the middle (like Gypsy Rose). Too much and it may bleach out. Here's a pic of my Hanky Panky in mid July. Its on the north side of my home on the east side of my porch. It gets direct sun from about noon to 2:30. The half of the plant to the left gets less direct sun and you can see how much darker (and Striptease like) it is. The left half is on the north side of the plant, closer to the house and partially shaded (even more) by a Holly bush.

steve..I don't have Hanky Panky..I get your reasoning and might've skipped YPDB if I did..
your HP is big!..was it small at first like my YPDB?..I'll try to give it one of my "brightest" shady spots..I'll be happy if it grows as much as your HP..

I bought it big. One of my first purchases on sale back in 2016. Previous pic is from 2018. Here's one from mid May 2019 to show how similar (not) that it is. Note, Holly bush was moved.

Your YPDB is actually looking more like my Full Frontal (which I like more than HP). Taken a couple nights ago in case we got frost and it got maimed like it did last year.
Now I think I need to get one and plant it next to HP.

wow..my YPDB does look like your Full Frontal..after seeing pics of your hostas with the same coloring I'm glad I bought it!..can't wait until mine's not new..and has a better shape..like yours..

Now my only question is why did you only get one? Plant in different lighting and viola! different looking plants. I saw them at our Lowes the other day, but didn't look close enough to see the price.BTW, second spring for Full Frontal - planted in 2019

My YPDB, purchased little last year. 2 weeks ago and today.

steve..the one I bought was prettier than the others..so I just took the best one!..and I have great self control haha..after all there are lots of Lowe's here that might have something I NEED..

Its color is highly dependent on lighting and it changes as the season (temperature) progresses. So I went by Lowes yesterday. The ones I saw previously were $8 in gallon pots. Found the $5 ones in front and even found a sport! (on the left). Yeah, I left the sport behind. Although, I am wondering how dramatic the color will change on it. Wonder if I could have gotten it at a discount.

They also had Christmas Candy which I think I remember good reports about so picked one up as well. I got the one that looked the most different. It had the narrowest center. It just happened to have the most eyes too. Probably not really sporting, but you never know.

Safe and sound at home and only about $1 per eye. YPDB is already in the ground. Can't say I'm thrilled with the pure peat potting soil (or was it that coconut coir?), but its mostly gone now anyway.

steve..you made me laugh again!..I'm so glad that you found some hostas that you NEEDED..hahaha..those look good!..your YPDB is nice..good sized in such a small pot!..I didn't see any sports..I would've noticed because I love solids..my YPDB isn't planted yet..I usually hold a new hosta over an empty pot and let the potting soil fall off and untangle the roots..I agree that the grower's soil can go..

True, I could get more planted with some help. The medium is very clingy. I used a hose to get it off. I planted it right next to Hanky Panky (just coming up back right) and earlier this year moved my HDHP (Hanky Panky look alike(ish) from Home Depot labelled as "Hosta", back left). Trying to get definitive about the differences, but different stages of growth (this year) and lighting differences may confuse the issue. What fun is being definitive anyway.

I am impressed with what Steve and Nicholsworth found at Lowe's. In my area, the plants at both Lowe's and HD are usually near dead and the leaves look like they've gone through a hail storm. Both of you found very pretty plants. I am waiting for my YPDB to unfurl and see what it looks like this year. Now that I've seen your Full Frontal and have an order pending at Sebright well I will have to get one of those too. You simply have to stop posting pictures of all of your plants! lol

steve..my husband was kidding saying we need "help" as in counseling!..Lol..we have a plant disorder!..I'm so ocd I couldn't hire anyone for garden work..I'd be unhappy with the work..I want to do it myself..but with a house you have no choice but to hire professionals for some jobs..roofing, chimney work etc..

Oh I could hire garden help to blow out leaves, dig holes, etc. that they could do but they would probably also pull out plants and step on them, so no I guess I won't hire anyone.

I've had counseling. About as much help as those "gardeners" - J/K, it did help. I knew what your husband meant. I just chose to interpret it in a way that suited me better. Hmm, maybe that's why I needed counseling.

Great that you got YPDB nw. I planted YPDB across a path from Hanky Panky so I will be able to compare seasonal changes. LOL, I for one do not need any counseling, I am very happy and well adjusted in my obsession!
