Sharp microwave 1214ty

Anyone own this over the counter microwave. There has been a lot of talk about it on here but I’m looking for some specifics. I would love to give it a build it look by having it look flush with the cabinets.

Here are my questions:

1. If I want the microwave flush with cabinets, what depth does the cabinet need to be? the depth of the microwave is 15 9/16” but I assume if you hang it on the bracket it might stick out more.

2. if it’s completely flush with cabinets, does there have to be space around it for the door to open?

3. If I go the route of plan B to only have the door stick out, what depth should the cabinet be?

maybe someone could measure the depth of the door. I can’t believe that Sharp doesn’t have that information.

Any information would be so helpful!!

Look at the overall depth. the oven DEPTH.

23 7/8" x 14 1/16" x 15 9/16"

17 1/2" x 9 7/8" x 14 15/16"

Your door must be PROUD of any adjacent cabinetry. Or it will not fully open. The door MUST stick out

Figure 14 on page 10 of the Installation Instructions shows that the oven extends beyond the cabinets above and adjacent to the appliance.

You are correct that the installation instructions do not state the depth of the cabinets. It refers only to the following:

"This Microwave Oven requires a mounting space on a wall as shown in Figure 1. It is designed to be used under standard 24-inch wide wall cabinets."

and

"THIS OVEN CANNOT BE PROPERLY INSTALLED WITHOUT REFERRING TO THE MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS FOUND ON WALL AND TOP CABINET TEMPLATES."

Perhaps you can obtain the templates from Sharp.

Hello M Khelp...how did you end up installing the Sharp microwave. We are looking at installing the same Sharp microwave (R-1214TY) under a 13.5" upper cabinet. Will it work or do we need to stick with a 12" deep upper cabinet?
