seems a bit blue but I always considered them green..would an overcast day give it a blue cast?..

I noticed a second leaf in the pic that could be sporting..about 11 o'clock from the sport..too bad I didn't see it when I was out..

It looks like it does have some wax. Maybe not enough to make it "blue" since you've always considered them green. Overcast days are great for blues and great for taking pics.

might be a third under it ...

separate it.. lets see what it does ...

blue hosta have a wax coating ... the term is glaucous ...

the wax reflects the color of the sky ...

if the sky is blue... it looks blue ... to varying degrees ...

if the sky is grey.. they all look grey ...

the wax wears off over the season ... based on a number of variables.. the worst being.. watering the leaves of your hosta in heat ...

the leaf isnt shiny.. so it must have some wax on it .. it would be easy to see if you could rub it off a leaf on the backside of the plant ...

dig it up.. and see if you can pull that division off.. it might have 3 leaves ... i would not cut on it.. to free a sport in the middle of the crown.. though in this case.. they are rogue seedlings anyway.. and so what if it dies ...

we will all learn if you take some action.. and keep us posted ...

I didn't plant the ones "behind the line"..

4 seedlings in back..one is tiny..

I have 2 clumps with variegated leaves..there's natural separations when you look underneath..and small seedlings..

I think maybe there's just 2 of 3 green ones planted here..don't the bottom 2 match better than the one with sports?..the third could easily be somewhere else..I know I took out 3..

I don't specifically remember planting Elegans here but I bought quite a few quart size Elegans..the house had zero blues and I wanted blues..could my 2 sports and the seedlings be Elegans?..my first 10 years of heavy planting are kind of fuzzy..

since the clumps with sports look to be separate I can leave them couldn't I?..Lol..I have a to do list a mile long..

Babka..I don't know hosta terminology..I tend to call any different leaf a sport..it's easy..and a cute name..I realize it could be a fluke..I wasn't planning to separate it..

I think it’s fun to find unusual leaves amongst all the “normal” ones. I take pictures like you nw to document. Mother Nature is unpredictable and that’s a benefit for the creation of new hostas sometimes........
