Frost Damage or Disease?

This hosta came with my brothers house and I was concerned about it when I last saw it 2 yrs ago. I can't say just how it looked then, but can say it looks worse now. There are some hostas in his main garden with definite frost damage but I don't know about this one. What do you all think?

Kay, the last image clinched it for me: collapsed tissue characteristic of HVX. Remove it, do NOT put on the compost but into the garbage or leave it to dry out and burn it. If you use tools to remove it be sure to thoroughly clean and disinfect them before using them on another hosta and do NOT plant another hosta in that location

Absolutely agree Pieter! The collapsed tissue is obvious as well as maybe some ink bleed. Not sure about that though! Get rid of it and clean the tools well to sanitize them so the virus doesn’t spread through your brother’s yard. Then don’t plant any other hostas in that area until you know the soil is virus free. You could plant other plants but nothing in the hosta family.
