Sconces aren't designed as ambient or task lighting. They are accent lights and should not be relied on to light the room when the TV is not in use. Table and floor lamps should do that.

decoenthusiaste --This is an unusal bit of architecture in a midcentury modern. The TV is in a small corridor facing a small open den. This is the floorplan of the house. The corridor cannot handle a table and it cannot have ceiling lights because it is a post and beam with 12' ceilings under the roof. So, we need to do the best we can to light this corridor with sconces. The small corridor, for 70 years, has been illuminated by sconce. I am just trying to do the best I can given the situation and looking for the best kind of light for this.

funny. I just did the same thing and love the results. I bought up/down white box 5"x5" sconce lights on Amazon. the solid box hides any glare and the up down sheds a beautiful light pattern app and down the wall. plenty of light. and when they are off they practically blend into the white wall color. LOVE IT!
